About this app

Mutūn brings together three foundational source texts (mutūn) of Tajweed and recitation, each presented chapter by chapter and verse by verse, with clear translations.

THE FOUR TEXTS

• Al-Qaṣīdah al-Khāqāniyyah, by Abū Muzāḥim al-Khāqānī (d. 325 AH) — the earliest known poem on the art of beautiful recitation and the manners of the reciter, with English and Urdu translation.

• Al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, by Imām Ibn al-Jazarī (d. 833 AH) — the matn on which the teaching of tajwīd has rested for six centuries, covering the articulation points, the characteristics of the letters, madd, stopping, and Qurʾanic spelling.

• Ḥirz al-Amānī (al-Shāṭibiyyah), by Imām al-Shāṭibī (d. 590 AH) — the celebrated gateway to the seven canonical readings (qirāʾāt), naming every reciter and transmitter through its system of letter-symbols (rumūz).

FEATURES

• Choose your translation: read the Arabic alone, or show English, Urdu, or both. Your choice is remembered.
• Word-by-word meanings: tap a word to see its meaning.
• Copy any verse with one tap, and per-verse explanations for selected verses.
