About this app

Identify, compare, and learn about more than 2000 species with 1000s of photos of fungi found in the PNW of NA.

If you can select facets of products on an e-commerce site, you can use this app. Instead of selecting women's shoes, brown, size 9, boots, you are selecting features of mushrooms like brown cap, white stipe, black spore color, and growing in wood chips.

With this app you don't need an internet connection, so it is available anywhere in the field.

You can choose facets or features in any order, so you will not be stopped by a question about which you don't have knowledge.

There are three ways you can pick the facets, features, or characters of a specimen:

1. Using the Q&A Wizard tab. It will ask questions to divide the overall population into a smaller and smaller subset. Then view the entire list of matching species in the list on the Match tag.

2. Use the Match Tab. There you select any feature you notice about a specimen in any order. You can pick obvious ones like size and color or you can find an unusual feature and select that. The species results list on this tab sorts the species by which species best matches what you have selected here or in the Q&A Wizard.

3. Use the Compare Tab. After selecting one or more species on the Match tab (using the star), use the Compare page to view all the characters or facets of the selected species in a spreadsheet like table. You can select additional facets on this page.

On the Match tab you can compare the facets of multiple species to learn why species do not show up in your search results, to understand how various species differ, or to find a distinguishing feature of a particular species.

You can switch between the Q&A Wizard tab and the Match tab to either work through the questions or navigate to a particular facets

Species are scored on the Match tab sorted by how well they match your chosen facets.

The app contains detailed scientific descriptions from many sources, including information about the range, veils, odor, habitat, possible chemical reactions, similar species, and more!

It includes definitions of hundreds of mycological terms and hundreds of mycological bibliographic references.
