Phone by NAIL is a phone app that uses privacy-preserving AI to augment phone calls with productivity and security features. Take notes, get answers or hints, or create illustrations during a call — for business or fun

The app offers three modes for processing call data: offline, private, and unencrypted. Offline mode is the most secure, but AI capabilities are limited. Unencrypted mode works like most popular AI services — privacy is guaranteed by policies rather than technology. Private mode uses confidential computing for speech recognition and LLM inference, so no one can listen to your calls or read call transcripts.

The assistant is designed to understand how to help without talking. You can guide it with custom instructions or choose one of the predefined prompts. For example, if the phone is used to take reservations at a sushi restaurant, the assistant can generate a confirmation message as a haiku or create a visual card with reservation details over a Japanese-style illustration of your interior.

Getting information or suggestions during a call can help when you need to de-escalate a situation, find better arguments in a sales call, or get help during a phone interview.

Scam detection uses on-device speech processing only and can trigger alerts or automatically disconnect suspicious calls from unknown callers. This can help protect less scam-aware relatives from losing money to phone scams.
