About this app

NativeWords is a dictionary for native languages, starting with Twi and growing to more languages over time. Look up a word, read what it means, and hear it pronounced by a native speaker.

SEARCH YOUR WAY
• Type a word in its own language, or search in English to find the native word for it.
• Results put the word you typed first, then close matches, then words whose meaning fits.
• English searches understand different forms of a word, so "fathers" finds "father" and "eating" finds "to eat".
• Special letters such as ɛ and ɔ are a tap away on the search screen.

HEAR REAL PRONUNCIATIONS
• Listen to words recorded by native speakers.
• Recordings start playing straight away, and the ones you play are kept on your phone for next time.

LEARN WITHOUT A CONNECTION
• Download a language in Settings and search, browse and read every word with no internet connection.
• Your downloads update quietly when you are back online, so new and corrected words arrive by themselves.

EXPLORE AND REMEMBER
• Every word comes with its definitions, example sentences and their translations.
• Tap a related word, such as a synonym or opposite, to go straight to it.
• Browse words by category.
• Save favourites to come back to.
• Meet a new word every day with the Word of the Day.
• Choose a light or dark appearance, or follow your phone's setting.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account or sign-in.
• No ads, no analytics and no tracking.
• Your favourites, searches and settings stay on your phone.
