□ What is N-Reco?
◆ N-Reco is a field note app that records information about wildlife encountered throughout the seasons in real time.
◆ It's ideal for archiving observations of animals and plants, including mammals, birds (wild birds), reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.
◆ Traditional field notes are often handwritten or compiled on a PC after field trips. However, with the widespread use of smartphones, we believe it would be convenient to be able to record in real time in a mobile environment. This app was developed based on actual experience and user evaluation.
□ Main Features
◆ Free and paid plans with unlocked functionality are available.
◆ Field Note Creation Function
● Record wildlife observation data in real time. Past observation data can also be entered.
● Edit offline. (*1)
● Use the search function to narrow down and extract field notes. You can also batch replace extracted notes.
● Equipped with seven species name dictionaries: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish (vertebrates), insects (invertebrates), and plants. Search for approximately 38,000 species (as of July 2024) by order, family, genus, and scientific name.
● Check Red Data species compiled by the Ministry of the Environment by correlating them with place names to protect rare species.
● In addition to searching the species name dictionary, you can also select observation history from your life list. You can enter species names directly even if they are not registered in the dictionary. A function to accept missing species name information is also available.
● A GPS-based map search function allows you to identify observation locations by place name or map. (*1)(*2)
● In addition to the standard map, you can switch between map tiles from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, vegetation maps, and USSG. (*1)(*2)
● Offline maps are available. (*6)
● Observation locations are GIS (Geographic Information System) compliant, allowing offline searches by prefecture, city, town, or village using a place name dictionary. (*2)
● In addition to place names, landmarks can also be recorded, and geographic coordinates (geocodes) can be used when searching the map. (*1)(*2)
● Locations and landmarks can also be selected from past visit history.
● Two types of memo fields are available. Entry can be separated into public and private.
● Photo memos can be registered. Select photos or videos from the device, or take photos using the simple camera function.
● Audio memos can be registered. Record using the simple recording function or select audio files on the device.
● Field note contents can be copied to the clipboard.
● Field notes can be linked to each other.
● Points can be registered to record unique location information separate from observation data.
● Observation data and points can be plotted and displayed on the observation map. External GPX files can also be imported to display track log information.
● Export field notes outside the app with the CSV file output function.
◆ Seasonal News
● Receive seasonal observation information from the Japan Meteorological Agency as news.
● Submit your first observation of the season as an N-Report. (*3)
● Receive N-Reports submitted by N-Reco users and send likes or replies via social media. (*3)
◆ Summary Function
● Review past observation records.
● Track field notes by month, prefecture, location, or landmark.
● Plot your past visits on a map for an overview using prefecture, location, or landmark maps. (*1)
