About this app
Needs is an app for learning the English people really use: for travelling, for work and for sitting an exam. From the first lesson you produce English: you speak and you write. It is not about picking the right answer out of four, but about saying and writing what you mean, with the app beside you at every step.
You start where you are: a placement test places you before you begin, adjusting its questions to how you answer. Nobody repeats what they already know, and nobody starts somewhere still out of reach.
English for real life: you travel through London, Dublin, Edinburgh, New York and Sydney, and along the way you land at an airport, take a taxi, sort out a problem at a hotel and ask for help. There is also a survival module for the situations you cannot improvise, like the chemist's or an emergency, and 21 courses for work and for preparing international exams.
You hear British English: every sentence is voiced in natural-sounding British voices, and you can tap any word to hear it again as many times as you need.
You record yourself and listen back: the speaking activities let you record your voice and hear how you sound. The recording stops by itself when you stop speaking, so there is no button to fight with.
If English is not your first language, you get support in yours: exercise instructions stay in English, as in a real class. In beginner lessons you see the translation right underneath; in the rest, a button translates whenever you need it. Buttons, notices and messages appear in your language.
