Netcraft Phishing and Malware Protection

Offers in-app purchases

The Netcraft app protects you from phishing and malware attacks on your Android device. The app will block all known attacks whilst you browse the web. Upon receipt of an SMS message containing a malicious URL, the app will alert you to the danger with a notification.

Although major desktop web browsers (such as Chrome and Firefox) have effective anti-phishing protection, the same is not true of the Android equivalents. The Netcraft app allows you to benefit from phishing protection on your Android device, taking advantage of Netcraft's constantly updated phishing site feed. Over 56 million phishing sites have been detected and blocked by our community to date [January 2019].

The Netcraft app offers free protection for a 28 day trial, after which a monthly or annual subscription is required. The app can be used to report phish to Netcraft without a subscription.

✔ Microsoft Edge

Netcraft also protects you in other apps, including the following:

✔ several other apps "Powered by Chrome"

In order to protect you, the Netcraft app requires the following permissions:
• Accessibility service: to check for malicious URLs whilst you browse the web, and to block phishing sites
• Send and view SMS messages: to detect malicious URLs within incoming texts
• Access your contacts (optional): to detect when an incoming text impersonates one of your contacts

Device encryption

When you enable Netcraft's protection, Android may disable device encryption on your behalf. This is a bug with Android, and applies to all applications using accessibility services. If you use Android's device encryption, simply re-enable it after enabling protection in the Netcraft app.
