About this app

Newsmast is an app built around topics that matter. We’re diverse, democratic and dedicated to building safe, committed communities that change the world.

In a first for the Fediverse, we’re seamlessly integrating content from your home server with Newsmast’s hand-curated, knowledge-sharing Communities, hosted on our customised Mastodon instance, newsmast.social. There’s no scraping or content aggregation - all the community content comes from Newsmast users or via federation, and is moderated by applying the Oliphant Tier 0 blocklist, filters that keep out NSFW, crypto and hate-speech, and our human team.

You can interact seamlessly across the two servers: like, repost, reply, follow, bookmark, add to lists. Most importantly, post into communities alongside followers, with the appropriate hashtags added automatically.

We’re backed by a charitable foundation: the Newsmast Foundation. Our mission is to change social media for good. Championing the work of journalists, academics, charities and NGOs - together with diverse voices, marginalised communities and people on the ground. Pooling facts, knowledge and ideas to tackle the biggest challenges worldwide.

Newsmast is here to make change. We’d love you to join us.

Onboarding process is awkward. You have to enter birth date, but you can't type it in -- you have to keep tapping until you find your year. That's a LOT of tapping.
