About this app
Kite saves video and audio from the web onto your phone, then plays it back. There is no account and no sign-up, and your downloads, history and settings stay on the device.
Paste a link, or browse
Drop in a URL from anywhere and Kite works out what is on the page. Or open the page in Kite's browser and let it find the media. Paste several links at once, separated by spaces, commas or new lines. Hand it a playlist and Kite lists what is inside and saves the items you tick.
Pick your quality, and the part you want
Every resolution the source offers is listed, from SD to 4K, each with its container, codec and an estimated size, so you know what you are getting. Prefer just the sound? Pull the audio out as a high-quality MP3 with title and artist metadata embedded. Where a video carries captions, choose a language and Kite writes them into the file. Trim a section out of a long one before it downloads, so you keep the minute you came for and not the hour around it. Or set a time, and Kite starts on its own.
Carry on with your day
Downloads keep running in the background and survive closing the app. Progress, speed and time remaining appear in your notification shade, where you can pause, resume or cancel without reopening Kite. An interrupted one picks up where it left off. You choose how many run at once and how much bandwidth each may take, name files from their title, channel, date and quality, and sort them into folders by site or playlist.
A browser built for finding media
The built-in browser has tabs, bookmarks, history and a choice of search engine — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave, or one you supply. It watches the pages you visit for playable media and offers a download button when it finds some. Advertising and tracking domains are blocked as you browse, from the start.
Your own library, and the rest of your phone's
Finished files land in a Kite folder on your device, where your gallery and file apps can see them. Rename one, delete it, or convert a saved video to MP3 without leaving the app.
The Videos tab is also a full media browser for what is already on your phone. Every folder holding video or music is listed with its file count; open one, search by name, and play anything in place. Kite asks for access to your videos and music the first time you open that tab, and asks for nothing beyond them — it cannot see your photos, your documents or any other file.
A player that gets out of the way
Swipe for brightness, volume and seeking. Press and hold to watch at double speed. Skip ten seconds either way. Pop a video out into picture-in-picture. What you have saved queues up behind whatever is playing, and Kite remembers where you stopped. Saved MP3s keep going with the screen off, with controls on your lock screen, in your shade and on Bluetooth — and a video can go the same way with one tap when you only want the sound. There is a sleep timer.
A private vault, locked with a PIN
Move a file in and it is encrypted on this device and hidden: it stops appearing in your gallery, in file apps and on the Videos tab. Getting back in needs your PIN. The vault lives only on this phone — there is no reset, and no copy held anywhere else.
Works with
Kite handles media pages from TikTok, Instagram, X, Reddit, Facebook, Vimeo, Twitch and Pinterest, along with a thousand or so other sites its extraction engine recognises.
About the ads
Kite is supported by advertising from third-party partners, which is what keeps it available with no subscription. The privacy policy names them, says what they receive, and explains how to limit ad personalisation from your Android settings.
