The Pentecostal Church of God International Movement of the Eastern Region of the United States of America originated in the year 1929 when the Rev. Tomás Álvarez, who started a work in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. For the year 1931 since the work had prospered, Pastor Rvdo. Juan L Lugo, Superintendent on the Island, decides to move to the New York city and transfer the Rev. Alvarez to Puerto Rico. In the same year (1931) the Rev. Lugo opened a new salon at 61 E 104th Street, when the Hispanic neighborhood was just beginning in that city. Given the growth of the work of the Lord, the Rev. Lugo found it necessary to obtain larger premises. He rented a Jewish synagogue on West 115th Street. From this blessed work the work was spread among the Hispanic population.
