About this app

NFC Utils reads a tag, identifies the chip, and gives you the tools that chip supports. It is free, with no ads and no account. The app holds no internet permission, so nothing leaves your phone.

Reach a tag three ways. Use the phone’s own NFC antenna, connect a compatible USB CCID reader to the USB-C port, or pair an ACS Bluetooth reader such as the ACR1555U or the ACR1255U-J1. Choose the source under Settings, and NFC Utils remembers the reader and reconnects when it is available.

Start with a read. NFC Utils names the chip, shows its stored records, memory, and protection state, and selects the matching family in Tools. Full Scan adds a memory map with lock markers. On supported chips you can check the NXP factory signature or read a TagTamper chip’s status, which reports Inactive, Intact, or Broken. Copy a result as text or JSON, share it as a file, or return to it in History.

ePassport
Read holder details, the photo, and any signature image from an ICAO 9303 passport chip. Enter the document number, birth date, and expiry from the printed machine readable zone (MRZ), or paste the MRZ. Access uses BAC or PACE. Data Genuine checks the files against the issuer's signed hashes. Chip Original tests whether the chip holds its private key when the app supports the offered check. Signer checks the certificate chain against bundled country roots. These checks do not replace a border check. The app cannot read fingerprints. Passport data and remembered unlock fields stay on your device. The master list is refreshed per release.

Write a menu link, equipment instructions, or contact details. The editor handles text, links, contacts, Wi-Fi, and other NDEF records. Load From Tag lets you edit an existing message. Erase Tag clears user data, and Format as NDEF prepares a blank tag.

NTAG 21x
• Write and edit records on NTAG213, NTAG215, and NTAG216.
• Set, change, or remove a tag password, and keep a public link readable while requiring that password for writes. The password controls access to the memory. It does not encrypt what the tag holds.
• Enable the read counter and mirror the UID, the counter, or both into a URL.
• Lock the tag read only, or freeze its configuration when it is ready to stay as it is.

NTAG 424 DNA
• Check and change the five AES-128 keys, and set the access rights on the NDEF file.
• Configure Secure Dynamic Messaging so the chip writes a changing counter, an authentication value, and optional encrypted data into its URL.
• Decode SDM URL reads one of those links back and checks its CMAC with the key you supply.

ICODE SLIX2
• Test, change, or lock the Read, Write, Privacy, and EAS and AFI passwords.
• Split the user memory at a pointer block and apply read or write protection to each region.
• Set the AFI and DSFID identifiers, and check, turn on, or turn off the EAS alarm response.
• Related ICODE chips get the tools their hardware supports.

Raw Commands lets you watch the exchange yourself. Start from a read-only preset such as Get Version, then read the sent bytes, the received response, and the decoded fields where supported.

There is no advertising and no analytics anywhere in the app, and tag data and keys stay on your device. You decide what to copy, export, or share.

What’s new

NFC Utils now reads Calypso transit cards. Montreal's OPUS card shows its number, expiry, passes with their last valid day, ticket books with trips left, and recent validations. OPUS holds no cash balance, so none is shown. Other Calypso cards show a serial number and raw records. China T-Union and China City Union cards show balance, number, and validity dates. We write nothing to transit cards. ICODE SLI and ICODE SLIX are named separately. We fixed small bugs and improved translations.
