About this app

Khaya was the first translation app for Ghanaian languages relying on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has since expanded to other African languages, such as Nigerian Yoruba, as well as Kenyan Kikuyu, Kimeru & Luo.

It also now includes Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) capabilities for Twi, Ewe, Yoruba, Ga, Dagbani & Yoruba - speak directly to your phone and the app will transcribe your speech into text!

The app also can now do pronunciations (Text-to-Speech) for Twi, Ewe & Kikuyu. This capability is currently only available to the premium subscribers of the mobile app.

Please note that noise in your environment and quality of your mic can all affect ASR transcription quality.

If you find the app useful and would like to see it grow and improve, kindly purchase a subscription to support our research. This will give you access to the audio pronunciation feature (TTS) languages where it is available (see above), as well as an ad-free experience. Thank you for your support!

Subscriptions auto-renew at end of designated corresponding period unless turned off at least 24 hours before in your iTunes account page.

The underlying algorithms are various neural network architectures, built jointly by the Algorine Research and Ghana NLP teams.

If you encounter service outages, please report them using our developer website, or any of our social media handles!

Features:
1. Make your phone speak Twi, Ewe or Kikuyu from written text!
2. Speak to the app in full Twi, Ewe, Yoruba, Ga, Dagbani & Yoruba sentences and it will transcribe it into text!
3. Translate text from English to Twi, Ewe, Ga, Kusaal, Yoruba, Dagbani, Gurene (alternatively Farefare or Frafra), Kikuyu, Kimeru and Luo
4. Translate text from Twi, Ewe, Ga, Kusaal, Yoruba, Dagbani, Gurene (alternatively Farefare or Frafra), Kikuyu, Kimeru and Luo to English
5. Submit improved translation corrections and recommendations directly from the app, and watch the technology improve to serve the Global African community

This app is very very awesome,we thank God that this is the only app in the world that can translate fante. But I give this app 4 stars because it does not spell accurately, and if you want to translate a whole file or document you cant take a picture of it,you have to type in bit by bit which will take time. But in all,its the best app,but still needs more improvements.

A much appreciated and needed app. Me da mo ase! May i make suggestions for the apps future development (based on my user experience): a means to save past translations for quick retrieval in fast moving conversations. Also, where written and spoken twi differ; perhaps an underscoring of the letters ommitted when the word is spoken. I truly look forward any future developments in this app. Thank you!

This app is amazing. But I am giving it 4 stars because it's a lot of work when you are trying to translate a whole essay or text because it does not have the ability to take a picture but I therefore end up typing whole essay which is stressful but in all this is the best. Thumbs-up

Thank you for your feedback :) If the text is in English, you can use the native OCR functionality on your phone to extract English text from a picture of the text. We will be making a demo on our socials how to do this soon :)
