About this app

Remember when a music player was just that — a player? You'd scroll the wheel, pick a song, and listen. No algorithms deciding for you. No notifications. No feed. Just your music, in your pocket.

NostalgicPod brings that feeling back, rebuilt from scratch for modern Android. Play your local MP3 and FLAC collection, connect to Jellyfin, Navidrome or Subsonic-compatible servers, and enjoy internet radio and podcasts—all inside a retro Hi-Fi player. The soul of the iPod, powered by a serious modern audio engine.

THE FEEL
A real touch wheel with haptic feedback and the click you remember. Cover Flow with smooth 3D album art. The classic iPod-style menu structure you grew up navigating. Letter overlay when scrolling long lists. A faithful Now Playing screen. It's not a theme slapped on another app — it's built to feel like the real thing.

THE SOUND
Underneath the nostalgia is a serious audio player.
FLAC lossless up to 24-bit/192 kHz
Hi-res audio support with automatic Hi-Res badge
Gapless playback
MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV, M4A and more
Custom equalizer with presets and per-band control
Proper shuffle (shuffle bag, no repeats) and Shuffle Albums
Smart playlists by star rating

The app works well and can handle a large library... HOWEVER, if you do have a large library (either local or remote), good luck navigating it... Getting around can be painful... The app need some kind of smart playlists or a way to customize the menu items tags\paths... Something so that it doesn't take a bunch of circling to get to where you wanna go... Also, you can't search a remote server, so if you add thousands of tracks, then not even searching is an option...

Thanks, Leon. The app recreates the simplicity and navigation of the iPod Classic. I understand this may be less convenient for very large libraries, so I’ll look into improving navigation without losing the classic experience. I’m also developing a more modern Zune/Metro-inspired app. To join the beta, write to me at nostalgicpodapp@gmail.com

The app works very well and the UI is excellent! Some features I would love to see added to make this my go-to music app are: Downloading contents of Jellyfin/Plex/Navidrome Libraries (or entire Libraries) for offline playback. - Option to play an Album on repeat (this may already be here and I've missed it?) Also, the Podcast search feature did not work for me, I was unable to find any results for any search. Would also appreciate being able to disable the landscape mode rotation to Cover Flow

Very polished and fun. Would like the option to hide different items I don't use from the menu, like podcasts, audiobooks, radio live, extras, etc. Would also like an updated icon that better reflects the app (perhaps the click wheel as the icon) and the ability to disable the splash screen when the app is launched.

Thank you, Andrew! I’ll look into adding an option to hide unused menu items. The current icon was intentionally designed to avoid potential branding issues with a certain company. Regarding the startup screen, the app needs a moment to load the full experience when opened after being completely closed!
