Note that UCS (Universal Computer Script) offers a free test version (NoTap_Lite) at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.UCS.UCS_Lite
This note app is a much needed advancement in writing for use with the cramped modern smartphone. NoTap provides an efficient alternative. This Pro version offers unhindered text input, several different screen size options, a copy function, multi-European language support and a Smartwatch setting.
It has two functions. NoTap_Pro can 1) replace the generic smartphone keypad if the setting is changed for NoTap to become the current pop up keyboard (also works on Smartwatch setting) and 2) act as a stand alone app for writing, note taking, list making, text input etc..
WHAT IS NOTAP?
NoTap is a versatile, finger-motion interpreter, built to compete with the smartphone keyboard. Contrary to writing systems of the past, NoTap is designed only to be written, not read. The stroke motions, although more simple, still maintain the European feel. (English + German, French, Portuguese, Spanish etc.) It is a modern, digital style of text input called ''In Place'' recognition writing which is faster than print or cursive, accurate, more compact and requires little visual acuity to perform. (Fully explained under the app [Info] button.)
OVERVIEW
If a digital screen can be used to recognize a stroke motion and you wish to compete with the keypad, the only means to reach that goal is to simplify letter-representing strokes and speed up the input process. It is therefore necessary in the digital era of small computers to modify the old writing system to fit the new technology.
To distil each English letter down to its most simple form was not a quick process. Years of trial and error were involved. To strive toward that end, a rough stroke system was established and then later many times adjusted in order to find that one set which met all English compatibility, flow and efficiency requirements After two decades of arranging and testing, a definitive understanding developed which allowed a reasonable studied determination of what strokes fit within the simple, NoTap writing style and precisely where to put them within the English character system. NoTap is the culmination of that long testing process.
YOUR SMARTPHONE PERFORMANCE
Many years have passed since the inception of the idea that a quick, non-key alternative to small computer text input could be developed that would perform to a note taking level of speed and accuracy. The major hindrance has been the technology. Only in the later part of 2021 had the cpu speed and screen refresh rate of some non-gaming smartphones finally reached the threshold for adequate processing speed to provide almost instantaneous stroke recognition / character output. Phones with less than adequate performance are just slower. It is recommended that user's phones should have a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz or more.
THE APP
Download the app, then tap the INFO[ ] button, fully read the description and become familiarized with the strokes through the reference guide.
LEARN THE SYSTEM
There is no time limit to learn NoTap. It is all a matter of personal preference. After about a month of practicing a few minutes a day, one's desire to tap the generic keypad will diminish. Once mastered, looking at one's precise finger position is no longer a part of the input process. Text input is calm, non-distracting, long endurance and low eye straining.
THE STROKES
NoTap strokes and their positions are not up for debate. They follow specific rules similar to musical notes. Not one symbol is so far off its English counterpart that it cannot be quickly adjusted to.
And again, NoTap is not exclusively for English. There is an inbuilt modification symbol that will allow European languages to be written as well.
