A new form of finger handwriting and recognition for Android smartphones with 120Hz or higher screen refresh rates. NoTap is 21st century writing that works for western European languages, that still feels similar to old style characters but is faster, rapidly editable and 100% neat.

NoTap was created by and for its developer in order to bypass the primitive, tiny keyboard, increase text input endurance and greatly reduce eye strain, while still maintaining English compatibility. Anyone who would like to follow along this new path is welcome to give it a try.

You can understand NoTap as an initial challenge that takes a while to work through, but soon becomes very useful in the real world. It works on the principle of an efficiency hierchy where the more used letters are the quickest and easiest to write.

These motions are set in stone, but have enough variability that mistakes can be few if written at the right speed. It took over twenty years of methodical experimentation to solidify these motions and set them in the correct positions for English. A number of these motions are exact matches to western European languages.

NoTap is a "blind" handwriting system. That is: writing without keys or a keyboard, without expressing any written strokes. Just writing clean smooth motions — and your text appears on screen. Direct motion to text (DMT). (To see the strokes as you write, you can go Settings -> System -> Developer Options -> and set Pointer Location to on.)

HOW IT WORKS
- Draw each character as a clean smooth motion gesture on your screen
- NoTap recognizes the movement and converts it to text instantly
- All controls are triggered by simple gesture commands
- No menus and no keyboard required

VOICE OUTPUT OPTION
NoTap includes an optional voice output feature for low sighted users with five levels of spoken feedback:
- Text as you write
- Last 4 letters — check your most recent input as you go
- Last word — confirm the word you just completed
- Last sentence — review before moving on to next period
- Full text — hear everything you have composed from start to finish

Voice output is optional — use it when you need it, turn it off when you don't. You can use headphones to keep the talk-back writing quiet and personal.

Note: If gesture recognition feels slow, check your display settings and ensure your refresh rate is set to 120Hz or above.

S21and above, Motorola Edge and, OnePlus 8 Pro and above, and most Android flagship
smartphones from 2021 onwards.

NoTap also has a smartwatch GUI setting and a mute button to turn off ad volume.
