Lifting the Blame from the Eminent Imams. This book, authored by Ibn Taymiyyah, as its title indicates, addresses the reasons for the differences of opinion among the leading scholars of the Muslim community regarding certain branches of Islamic jurisprudence. It clarifies that these differences do not diminish their stature or value, nor were they due to personal bias. The impetus behind writing this book was the criticism leveled by some against certain prominent scholars for their differing interpretations of some hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The book aims to remove this criticism and justify their positions. It was therefore necessary to clarify the matter for the people, and to show that such blame was unfounded. Ibn Taymiyyah was referring specifically to the leading scholars of the Muslim community, not to any student of knowledge who might err and repeat mistakes on their own.

In this work, Ibn Taymiyyah defended the logical existence of differences in the legal opinions of the imams of the Muslim community, which is considered important for Muslims due to the necessity of the steadfastness and firmness of the piety and competence of those from whom they learn their religion.

In his book, *Al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil* (Criticism and Justification of Narrators), he wrote: "Among the most beneficial works written on this subject is *Raising the Blame from the Leading Imams*... It is so worthy that if it were in China, one would travel to it and hold fast to it. May God have mercy on those who find excuses for the imams and know that their efforts were solely for truth and guidance."

Author: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim ibn Abd al-Salam ibn Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Qasim al-Khidr al-Numayri al-Harrani al-Dimashqi al-Hanbali, Abu al-Abbas, Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah (661-728 AH = 1263-1328 CE). He is the Imam, the Sheikh of Islam. He was born in Harran, and his father moved with him to Damascus, where he excelled and became renowned. He was summoned to Egypt because of a fatwa he had issued, so he went there. However, a group of people there opposed him, and he was imprisoned for a time and then transferred to Alexandria. He was later released and traveled to Damascus in 712 AH, where he was arrested again in 720 AH. He was released, then re-arrested, and died imprisoned in the Damascus Citadel. All of Damascus turned out for his funeral. He was a prolific scholar of various branches of wisdom and a reformer of the faith. He was a master of exegesis and jurisprudence, eloquent, and his writing and speech were in perfect harmony. In al-Durar al-Kaminah, it is mentioned that he debated with scholars, presented arguments, and excelled in knowledge and exegesis. He issued fatwas and taught while still under twenty. As for his writings, al-Durar states that they may exceed four thousand notebooks, while Fawwat al-Wafayat states that they reach three hundred volumes, including: *al-Siyasah al-Shar'iyyah* (Islamic Governance), *al-Fatawa* (Legal Opinions), *al-Iman* (Faith), *Minhaj al-Sunnah* (The Path of the Sunnah), *al-Wasitah bayna al-Haqq wa al-Khalq* (The Mediator between Truth and Creation), *al-Qawa'id al-Nuraniyyah al-Fiqhiyyah* (The Luminous Principles of Jurisprudence), *al-Sarim al-Maslul 'ala Shatim al-Rasul* (The Drawn Sword Against the One Who Insults the Messenger), and so on.

- Shaykh al-Islam explains the reasons for the differences of opinion among scholars regarding disputed issues. Some rulings in Islamic law are unanimously agreed upon, while others are subject to differing opinions. By reading this book, we learn the reasons for these differences of opinion among scholars. One of the benefits of this book is understanding that the Shaykh's methodology is that it is not permissible to curse any living person, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, contrary to what some ignorant people believe about him. The Shaykh believes that the hadiths that mention cursing someone for a specific action do not necessarily imply cursing everyone who commits that action unless certain conditions are met and there are no impediments.

Elhamy Hegazy

- A great book by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may God have mercy on him). It teaches you much about the respect scholars have for one another and the importance of not overstepping the bounds of respecting scholars, even if they err. It explains the reasons for scholars' mistakes in his decisive and conclusive manner, which is based on his vast knowledge of Islamic law, piety, and devoutness.

Dhu al-Fiqar

- A valuable and concise book in which Sheikh al-Islam explains the reasons why imams sometimes refrained from acting upon hadith and clarifies the reasons for their differences.

He elaborates, without being lengthy, on some issues such as: hadiths of warning / consensus. The book also includes an important study on ijtihad and taqlid. In short, it is a very important book, and I recommend reading it so that we may avoid blind adherence to schools of thought and scholars.

Oussema

- A valuable book by Sheikh al-Islam. It allows you to understand the differences and why there were differences in the legal interpretations among the imams. It explores whether the contradictions in their interpretations were based on personal inclination or on following the evidence. It is very important, and I recommend reading it.

Abdullah Al-Emadi

- The book is completely the opposite of what I expected. In a simple style and easy-to-understand language, Sheikh al-Islam explained the reasons for the differences between jurists and the founders of the various schools of thought, emphasizing that everyone is a mujtahid (one who exercises independent judgment in Islamic law), even if their opinion differs from the consensus of the jurists. This book is very suitable for non-specialists.
