About this app

This is not a government app. Wildfire Assistant is a private planning tool. We are not part of NIFC, FEMA, CAL FIRE, or any other agency, and we do not issue alerts or evacuation orders.

You can search an address, see current U.S. federal fire perimeters on the map, get a rough risk score for that spot, and ask about home hardening or leaving early. You can attach a photo if you want a second look at fuels or vents. None of that replaces 911 or your local fire department.

The outlines on the map are NIFC's current interagency perimeters (WFIGS). We load that public GIS layer. Distance to those same perimeters is one input to our score. You can open the originals yourself:

The risk score is ours. It mixes NIFC distance with a simple regional guess we wrote in the app. It is not a CAL FIRE, USFS, FEMA, or insurance rating.

Prep answers may also point you to public websites. We do not plot those sites as map layers:

The basemap and address search come from Google Maps. Chat and photo comments come from a commercial AI service. Treat both as general advice.

Internet required. The perimeter layer is U.S. federal, so the map is most useful in the United States.
