PenguinApp is a simple, fast mobile app for exploring penguin colony locations and population counts across Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.

Built in collaboration with Oceanites, PenguinApp makes decades of scientific monitoring data easy to browse on your phone.

What you can do

• Search hundreds of penguin colonies by name, species, or site code
• View the latest nest counts for each colony
• See when each colony was last counted
• Explore colonies by species (Adélie, Gentoo, Chinstrap, and more)

Data you can trust

All data comes from long-term monitoring programs led by Oceanites and the Mapping Application for Penguin Populations and Projected Dynamics (MAPPPD). This includes decades of field surveys, satellite analysis, and scientific validation.

PenguinApp uses this data locally on your device — no account, no tracking, no data collection.

What’s new

This release includes Version 5.0 of MAPPPD data as well as a new Fast Facts feature for the public or expedition guides.

We have also added functionality that will allow expedition guides to unlock a tool to record phenological observations of penguin colonies. Codes are only accessible to guides who have been invited to join the program, but this will roll out more in the near future.
