Ohmen turns a resistance reading from your meter into conductor length.
Measure the loop, type the ohms, read the metres. Ohmen divides your
reading by the resistance per metre published for that conductor,
corrected for temperature.
HOW IT WORKS
Single conductor: L = R / r'
Two conductor loop: L = R(loop) / (r'A + r'B)
The resistance per metre comes from the standard you work to, not from a
guess. On first run Ohmen asks which wiring rules you follow, then carries
the copper and aluminium values from that table.
WHAT YOU SET
- Resistance measured, in ohms
- Copper or aluminium
- Cross section in mm2 or AWG
- Conductor class
- Conductor temperature
SOURCE TABLES
- EU: HD 60364-6
- UK: BS 7671
- US: NEC
Switch between metric and imperial at any time. Lengths read in metres or
feet to match.
IT IS AN ESTIMATE, AND IT SAYS SO
The result is an estimate. That is the same framing the source standards
use for this calculation, and Ohmen says so on screen rather than dressing
it up as a certified measurement. Your meter, your leads, and the real
conductor temperature all move the answer.
NO ACCOUNTS, NO TELEMETRY
Ohmen runs entirely on your phone. There is no login, no sign-up screen,
and nothing you type leaves the device.
WHO IT IS FOR
Electricians, inspectors, and testers who need cable length from a
continuity or loop reading. Estimating a run inside a wall or conduit,
checking a drum against its stated length, or sanity checking a figure
on site.
