About this app

A mobile app for discovering a selection of works from the Girodet Museum and the city of Montargis.

Closed since May 2012 and reopened in 2018, the Girodet Museum building has been completely renovated and expanded to enhance the visitor experience, open temporary exhibition spaces, and also provide studio rooms and a documentation center.

The Girodet Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the life and work of Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson, born in Montargis in 1767. The collection traces his career, from his early attempts as a history painter in David's studio (The Death of Camille, 1785) to his mature works, some of which foreshadow Romanticism (Mustapha, 1819). It showcases the key moments of his career, his talents as a draftsman, and his passion for illustration. The painted portraits of members of Dr. Trioson's family, the artist's guardian and later adoptive father, form the strongest and most moving part of the collection. Around the exceptional Geography Lesson (1803), the portraits of Benoît-Agnès Trioson (1798) and Dr. Trioson in a white frock coat (circa 1802) are displayed.

In addition to the remarkable collection of Old Master paintings, numerous pieces from the studio of Henry de Triqueti (1803-1874), a Romantic sculptor born in Conflans-sur-Loing, near Montargis, complete the visit: preparatory models for the doors of the Madeleine Church in Paris (1834-1841), the original plaster cast of the recumbent effigy of Ferdinand d'Orléans (1842), and decorative art objects. The museum also houses an exceptional collection of plaster preparatory models for the decoration of Prince Albert's Chapel, a memorial to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg at Windsor Castle, to which Triqueti devoted ten years of work, from 1864 to 1874, at the request of Queen Victoria.

As a Musée de France (since 2002), the museum is committed to fulfilling its various missions (Musée de France Art. L. 441-2 of the French Heritage Code):

- to preserve, restore, study, and enrich the collections;

- to make them accessible to the public;

- to implement educational and outreach programs;

- to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of research.

The mobile application allows visitors to discover the major works of the Girodet Museum and its history within the museum's visitor itinerary, in an informative, engaging, and intergenerational way. The approach is engaging, fun, educational, and immersive thanks to the audio guide and a series of interactive games and interpretive modules.
