About this app

Follow Me is an educational tool to promote and enhance the development of visual-perceptual and cognitive processes and building visual access to the meaning of words, in people with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability associated. This project gives meaning and guides the intervention to be conducted with people who do not have access to reading and writing, because their perceptual abilities - visual cognitive is not allowed.
six phases ranging from basal stimulation to acquire meaning from videos, photographs, drawings and pictograms are presented, including in the final stages of categorization and association activities through games.

The project has been developed by the Orange Foundation and the University of Granada, with the pedagogical advice of Juan Martos. They have collaborated in implementing the special school of the Hospitaller Sisters of Granada and the company Everyware.

Some of the objective of the program are:
Encourage the establishment and visual tracking. Improved baseline visual attention to stimuli. Adjust the sequence of pictures of each phase to normal development. The child looks at a screen, directs the gaze to a specific point of it, remains looking at a given time, flashing, focuses on a particular image without being distracted by funds. It is complemented by sound stimuli. Later the focus is on visual representations of real objects and faces in videos.
Develop observation skills, using simple, clear, familiar, easy observation and progressive difficulty images. Having previous experiences adapting them to their perceptive and relating state with their everyday experience: classroom, playground, etc.
Enhance mental representation and language comprehension in children through visual and auditory images. Video images are incorporated into real-world objects and faces of people to recognize them. image discrimination and the association of real objects and verbal labels for two-dimensional representation work.
Improved behavioral control related stereotypies, decentration problems, motivation and interest in the game, general stimulation, decreased hyperactivity.
The application has been designed following educational strategies that can help the user with ASD to develop those cognitive structures that are necessary to compensate for the difficulties in learning; some of these strategies, as described by Rita Jordan, are:
- Stable Visuals
- Predictable visual Trajectories
- Repeated sequences in order to create consistency and facilitate advance
- Predictable physical environments. The starting point is relevant to everyday life scenarios
- Aid to convert sequential experiences in a meaningless
- Based on the significant learning. The application allows the possibility of adapting images, music and videos to user preferences. Customizing scenarios, environments and objects.
