OutagePing turns any Android phone into a power-failure alarm.

Keep a phone on its charger at the place you want to watch. When the power fails it notices within
seconds and raises a full-screen siren that overrides silent mode - so a tripped breaker at 3am
wakes you before the freezer thaws, before the fish tank goes cold, before the sump pump stops.

Any Android phone will do. The one in your pocket works, so does a handset out of a drawer, and so
does the cheapest thing on the shelf. The only requirement is that it stays plugged in where you
want to be warned - so for somewhere you are away from, use a phone that stays there.

But an alarm in an empty house wakes nobody. So the same app has a second job.

WATCHING SOMEONE ELSE'S PLACE
Install it on your own phone, choose "Watch another place", and type the six-digit code the other
person gives you. From then on, their power failing wakes your phone - wherever you are. There is no
sign-up, no account and no email address for the watcher: the code is the whole setup, and it takes
about fifteen seconds standing next to the person who gave it to you.

That is what makes this work for a parent's flat, a holiday home, or a neighbour who is away.

WHY A PHONE MAKES A GOOD POWER SENSOR
It already has a battery, a screen, a speaker and a data connection. It knows the instant the
charger stops delivering power, and because it runs on its own battery afterwards it can keep
telling you so for hours after the lights have gone out. A purpose-built sensor costs more and does
less.

OUTAGEPING PRO - OPTIONAL
Pro adds the part a siren cannot do: telling people who are not in the building. Everyone watching
that phone is woken on their own handset, and email reaches anyone who will not install an app. A
dead-man's switch means that if the monitoring phone stops reporting in altogether, your watchers
are told anyway - the silence itself is the alert. The web portal shows you who is watching, whether
their phone can actually be reached, and every failure that has happened.

Pro is a separate subscription and is not required. The app is fully functional without it.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS NOT
We do not send text messages or place phone calls. Alerts reach watchers as push notifications on
their phones, and everyone else by email. A watcher whose phone cannot be reached is shown to you as
exactly that, rather than counted as covered.

PRIVACY
A watcher needs no account and gives us no email address. Contact addresses are encrypted before
they are stored. No ads and no advertising identifiers. You can delete your account and everything
attached to it from inside the app, at any time.
