Ever been on a call trying to spell out your name, email, or booking code, and gotten stuck at "S as in... Sam? Sun?" Spellbound solves that instantly. Type any text and see it spelled out with a phonetic alphabet in a flash — "Joe" becomes "J — Juliett, O — Oscar, E — Echo."

KEY FEATURES

• In-call bubble — Spellbound's signature feature. An opt-in, floating chat-head bubble appears automatically during phone calls. Drag it anywhere on screen (it snaps to the edges), tap to open the spell panel, and drag it to the X to dismiss. Prefer not to use the bubble? A Quick Settings "Spell" tile gives you the same spelling tool with no extra permissions, and a "Preview bubble" option in Settings lets you try the bubble anytime, even without a call. If a call comes in while your screen is locked, tapping the notification opens the spell screen right after you unlock.

• Spell mode — Type anything and get the phonetic spelling instantly. Handles digits, punctuation (a "." becomes "Dot"), and accented letters (an "é" becomes "Echo"). Unrecognized characters are shown as-is.

• Reference view — Browse the complete A–Z and 0–9 phonetic alphabet in a clear, glanceable grid.

• Multiple alphabets — Choose between NATO/ICAO (the default), US Police/LAPD, and the German Funkalphabet.

• Customizable code words — Long-press any letter in the Reference tab to swap its code word (change "L as in Lima" to "L as in London", for example). Reset a single word or the whole alphabet whenever you like. Your changes carry through everywhere in the app — Spell mode, Reference view, spoken audio, and the in-call bubble.

• Text-to-speech — Have any spelling read aloud. Speech runs fully on-device and works offline.

• Saved queries — Save the strings you spell often, like a name, confirmation code, or license plate, for one-tap reuse. Saved items also show up as quick-fill suggestions and as chips inside the in-call bubble.

YOUR PRIVACY

Spellbound only reads your call state — ringing, in-call, or ended — so it knows when to show the bubble. It never reads your phone numbers, contacts, or call logs. The bubble is strictly opt-in, turned on only through an onboarding flow in Settings. Text-to-speech runs entirely on-device, and the app works fully offline. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and nothing is collected or shared with third parties. Saved queries and custom code words stay on your device.

Spellbound is for anyone who spells things out over the phone: names, email addresses, booking codes, license plates, or ID numbers. Handy for support calls, travel bookings, customer service, and radio hobbyists alike.
