FlyingGreen is EUROCONTROL’s comprehensive sustainability platform that supports the European aviation sector in achieving net-zero emissions and building climate resilience. Developed by the Aviation Sustainability Unit (ASU) in collaboration with aviation stakeholders and industry partners, it serves as a one-stop-shop for data, analysis, and decision-support tools that underpin Europe’s aviation decarbonisation strategy.
The platform is built around four interconnected pillars:
NetZero – Delivers data-driven insights on emissions, fuel burn, and traffic forecasts up to 2050. It enables users to perform what-if analyses on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) uptake, fleet renewal, operational improvements, and regulatory measures (EU ETS, CORSIA), helping stakeholders understand how different actions impact future emissions and costs.
FuellingDecarb – Focuses on the aviation’s energy transition by estimating future needs for SAF, hydrogen, and electricity. It assesses feedstocks, production costs, and renewable-energy infrastructure needs, offering visual tools to plan and price sustainable fuel supply pathways.
ClimAdapt – Enhances climate-risk awareness and adaptation planning. It provides a high-level screening tool, economic impact assessments, and a repository of adaptation measures to help airports, ANSPs, and airlines evaluate their exposure to climate impacts and define develop mitigation strategies.
DecarbFin – Facilitates access to sustainable finance by mapping EU and private funding instruments, ESG frameworks, and aviation-specific financial roadmaps. It features a BlueBook that helps organisations in aligning with EU Taxonomy and CSRD requirements.
FlyingGreen integrates these components through an intuitive web interface that allows users to log in, save projects, and compare scenarios across operational, technical, and financial dimensions. It leverages EUROCONTROL’s advanced modelling tools (AEM, BADA) and STATFOR traffic forecasts to ensure consistent and robust data across Europe.
In essence, FlyingGreen empowers policy-makers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to measure, simulate, and plan the aviation towards a sustainable, climate-neutral future for aviation.
