Palliative medicine deals with complex clinical pictures, for the treatment of which there are often no approved drugs available. The off-label use of medicinal products (OLU) is therefore an integral part of palliative pharmacotherapy. It means a great challenge for everyone involved and confronts them with special risks; Questions of therapy safety as well as legal aspects (e.g. the assumption of costs by the statutory health insurance companies) must be considered.
pall-OLU is aimed at medical, pharmaceutical and nursing professionals who are looking for a decision-making aid for the off-label use of drugs. This app offers concrete therapy recommendations for selected active ingredients, their application forms and indications. The recommendations are based on the best available evidence, determined through systematic literature research, reviewed and agreed by independent palliative care experts. In addition, the app points to alternative drug and non-drug therapy options, names monitoring parameters for the therapies and provides information about the most common symptoms that occur in palliative care.
