About this app
Picamoi is a Finnish practice app for adults who are learning the language for work, for daily life, or for the YKI exam.
DICTIONARY
Look up any Finnish word and see its full inflection table. The app also recognises inflected forms: type "taloissa" and you get the base form talo. Tap an inflected form to see what it is and an example sentence using it. The dictionary covers 97,388 words from the Kotus word list and 45,061 example sentences across 33,794 words.
BEGINNER COURSE
A twelve-lesson course with a closing test, for people starting from zero.
WORD OF THE DAY
Set a daily target and the app teaches you the next words one at a time.
PHRASES
592 phrases from 81 everyday situations: at the shop, at the doctor, in a job interview. Nearly all of them have audio.
GRAMMAR
18 topics and 153 exercises: cases, verb types, consonant gradation.
GAMES
Seven games for revising vocabulary: cards, ninja, pairs, memory, find the word, syllables and a quick round.
YKI PRACTICE
55 practice sets across three levels (basic, intermediate, advanced) and four sections: reading, listening, writing and speaking. 252 questions and 138 recorded texts in total. In mock mode you sit the whole exam in one go, in the same order as the real thing, and your results are kept.
WRITING FEEDBACK
Send a writing task for assessment and get a level estimate plus corrections with reasons. The first three assessments are free; after that they are bought as credit packs (10, 30 or 60 assessments).
LANGUAGE CAFES
A list of free language cafés where you can speak Finnish with other people.
Everything except the writing assessment is free. The app interface is available in Finnish, Turkish, English, Russian and Arabic. You can start without an account and link one later.
