Ratings and reviews

Forces to register with email address, which is utterly unnecessary. Information in the user manual for avalanche backpack is inaccurate. The app does not allow to disable sleep timer. Six not five button presses on the device are required to connect to the app. Way too much hassle to change a single setting of the device.

First it is awesome that Pieps routinely upgrades their software. I'm not sure any other beacon company does that. Second, this app makes it super easy to upgrade your beacons software. Third, this app allows you to set different training scenarios by turning on/off different antennas on training (buried) beacons. Truly amazing! If you own a Pieps or Black Diamond beacon you need this app!

It is disappointing that I cannot even find software version information about my Pieps DSP, neither on the web site as in this application. It does have some useful information about search & rescue in general. But its true value probably only comes out when having a newer model Pieps wich has bluetooth for training, and apparently enables software update by the user. For my DSP, updating seems to involve quite some cost and hassle sending it to a service centre, maybe even all the way in Austria.
