About this app

Pingolin Track lets you share your location with family and close friends, and nobody else.

Locations are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. The server stores only ciphertext and holds no key that can open it. It cannot see where you are, and neither can anyone outside the circle you shared with.

CIRCLES
• Create a circle and invite the people you choose
• See everyone on one map
• Leave, or pause sharing, at any time
• Nothing is public — there is no discovery and no feed

PLACES AND ALERTS
• Save places that matter, like home, school or work
• Get told when someone arrives or leaves

DESTINATIONS
• Share where you are heading, so your circle knows you are on the way

HISTORY
• See where a circle member has been, over the period your plan keeps

NOTIFY YOUR CIRCLE
• Let everyone in a circle know where you are, in one tap

CHECK WHO YOU ARE SHARING WITH
• Compare a safety number with any member to confirm you are sharing with their device and not an impostor

EASY ON YOUR BATTERY
• Location is sampled, not streamed — about every 20 seconds while you are moving, and once every five minutes once you have been still
• Sampling slows automatically as your battery drops, and returns to normal while charging
• Battery Saver goes further: locations are queued and sent in batches

FREE AND PREMIUM
Track is free to use, with up to 5 members per circle, 2 circles, 2 saved places, 2 place alerts and 2 days of history. Premium raises that to 50 members per circle, unlimited circles, places and alerts, and a full year of history. You never have to subscribe to use Track.

HOW THE ENCRYPTION WORKS
Locations are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305. Keys are exchanged with X25519 and signed with Ed25519. Your password never leaves your device: sign-in uses SRP, so the server can verify you without ever receiving it. These are published, standard algorithms — nothing home-grown.

Pingolin Track is not an emergency or safety service. Notifying your circle reaches only the people in that circle: no alert goes to police, fire or ambulance, and nobody at Pingolin monitors them.

Pingolin Track is made by Pingolin LLC.
