The remote is always down the back of the sofa. Your phone never is.
TV Remote turns the phone in your hand into a complete remote control for Roku, Fire TV and Android TV, over the Wi-Fi you already have. No infrared blaster, no dongle, no batteries. Open the app and it reconnects to your television on its own.
The remote itself is free, and it stays free. Every key — the D-pad, OK, back, home, volume, mute, power and the full playback row — works without paying for anything.
WHAT IT CONTROLS
• Roku streaming players and Roku TVs — TCL, Hisense, Sharp and the rest
• Amazon Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube and Fire TV Edition televisions
• Google TV, Android TV, Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV boxes
THE REMOTE
• A real D-pad with press-and-hold, so scrolling a long list behaves like the plastic remote
• Playback, rewind and fast forward, instant replay — plus volume and mute on the devices that can change it
• Power, home, back, options and search
• Keys your device genuinely cannot perform are hidden rather than offered — a streaming stick cannot change your television's volume, so those keys do not appear on one
TYPE INSTEAD OF HUNTING
• Search with your phone keyboard and the letters land on the TV as you type
• No more picking out a film title one arrow key at a time
JUMP STRAIGHT INTO AN APP
• Open what is installed on the TV in a single tap
• On Roku, each channel shows its own artwork, exactly as it does on the television
FINDS YOUR TV BY ITSELF
• Scans your network automatically and lists what it finds
• Roku connects the moment it is found, with nothing to set up
• Fire TV and Android TV ask you to allow the phone once, on the television itself
• If your router blocks device discovery, type the TV's address instead — it always works
BUILT FOR A DARK ROOM
• A deep, low-glare interface that will not blind you mid-film
• A short tick of feedback on every key, so you can use it without looking down
• Turn the feedback off in Settings if you would rather it stayed silent
PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION
• The app talks only to your television, on your own network
• Your televisions, their names and their addresses stay on your phone
• What you press, what you type and what is installed on your TV are never uploaded
FREE AND PREMIUM
The whole remote is free forever, along with one saved television. Connecting to a different TV is always allowed — it simply replaces the saved one, so you are never locked out of your own set.
Premium adds:
• As many saved televisions as you like, switched between in a tap
• Typing on the TV with your phone keyboard
• One-tap app shortcuts
• Ads removed everywhere in the app
