About this app

Backflow Prevention Device Selector is a professional plumbing calculator and reference tool for master plumbers, backflow prevention testers, water utility inspectors, and building code officials. Select the correct ASSE-certified backflow prevention device for any application in seconds, with full hazard classification and IPC/UPC code compliance verification. Works 100% offline on the job site with zero internet dependency — designed for water safety compliance.

FEATURES
• Device Selection by Application: 17 application types — irrigation, boiler (with and without chemical treatment), fire protection, laboratory, medical/dental equipment, chemical feed, commercial laundry, food processing, pool/spa, solar heating, carbonator/beverage dispenser, hose connection, toilet and urinal flush valves, commercial dishwasher, and cooling tower
• 8 Backflow Device Types: Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker (AVB), Hose Vacuum Breaker (HVB), Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breaker (SVB), Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA), Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB), Reduced Pressure Principle Device (RPZ), Anti-Siphon Device (AG), and Dual Check Valve
• Hazard Classification: Automatic high vs. low hazard classification for each application type to ensure correct protection level
• Standards Reference: ASSE 1001 (AVB), 1011 (hose vacuum breaker), 1013 (RPZ), 1015 (DCVA), 1020 (PVB), 1024 (dual check), 1056 (SVB) and ASME A112.1.2 (air gap)
• Ranked Recommendations: Devices ranked by preference and code compliance for your specific application
• Pressure and Temperature Requirements: Verify device pressure and temperature compatibility for your specific installation
• Installation Notes: Code-specific installation requirements and location constraints for each device type

HOW IT WORKS
1. Select your application type from the dropdown (irrigation, boiler, fire protection, etc.)
2. The app automatically classifies the hazard level (high or low)
3. View all compatible backflow prevention devices ranked by preference
4. See ASSE standard references and full device specifications
5. Save calculations to history, export to PDF for code inspections and permits

PERFECT FOR
• Master plumbers and journeyman plumbers performing backflow prevention installations
• Backflow prevention testers and cross-connection control specialists
• Water utility inspectors verifying compliance with code standards
• Plumbing contractors and mechanical estimators
• Building code officials and inspectors
• Plumbing apprentices learning ASSE standards and device selection

OPTIONAL PRO UPGRADE — $2.99 ONE-TIME IN-APP PURCHASE
The following features require a separate one-time in-app purchase. They are not required to use the calculator:
• Unlimited saved calculation history
• PDF export of results
• Dark theme

What’s new

Corrected standards references: air gap is ASME A112.1.2 (not ASSE 1001) and the hose connection vacuum breaker is ASSE 1011. Safety fixes: solar heating (glycol), toilet/urinal flush valves are now classified high hazard (DCVA removed where not legal), and a separate "Boiler with chemical treatment" application (RPZ) was added.
