About this app

Notification Sieve blocks the notifications you don't want and leaves everything else alone. Rules run on your phone. No notification content is ever uploaded.

WHAT A RULE MATCHES

• App, category, title, text — any combination, all must match
• A list of words with * wildcards, or a full regular expression
• Per field: case-sensitive, and "does not match" to invert it
• Time of day, including windows that cross midnight
• Days of the week
• Whether you are inside or outside a place you pick on a map

Allow rules override block rules, which makes exceptions simple to write:

• Block everything from Slack, except direct messages
• Block a noisy group chat, except when it mentions your name
• Block work email outside working hours, except from your manager

BUILDING A RULE

• Tap a notification you have already received and every field is filled in from it
• A live preview shows which of your recent notifications the rule would catch, before you save it
• An app picker lists what is installed, so you never type a package name
• Pick a location on a map, no address needed

IF A RULE GOES WRONG

• Test mode records what a rule would have blocked, without blocking anything
• Calls and alarms are allowed by default
• Music, navigation and downloads are never blocked unless a rule opts in
• One switch turns all filtering off
• Everything blocked is kept for 30 days, grouped by day, filterable by app
• Tap any blocked notification to open the app it came from

WHAT IT CANNOT DO

Android tells an app about a notification only after it has been posted. A banner may appear for a fraction of a second, and a sound may have started, before Sieve removes it. No app without root can prevent this.

Sieve works with that rather than around it: for any app you block, it links you straight to that app's notification settings so you can silence it at the source. Nothing sounds, nothing appears, and Sieve clears away what is left.
