About this app

Pointz is a community of people who use bikes, scooters, and other micromobility vehicles to find better ways around cities. Riders contribute to the map to share information like road closures, bike lane obstructions, dangerous intersections, surface issues, and other hazards. The colored map shows streets rated on a 1-5 bike friendliness scale based on attributes like bike infrastructure type, car traffic volume and speed, and other factors.

With Pointz you can:
- Find safer routes: view the expected safety level before you leave
- Explore your area: find safe streets and infrastructure you never knew existed and unlock routes to new areas of town
- Crowdsource: share information with other Pointz community members like where there are closures and hazards they should be aware of
- Record your rides: keep track of your commutes
- Customize your routes: user the safety slider and toggles to customize your routes based on your comfort levels, bike type, and individual preferences
- Get picked up in case of a breakdown: available 24/7 throughout the entire US, we’ll pick you up if you get a flat or breakdown with your bike
- Track your maintenance: log your bike’s maintenance and get reminders to fill up your air, lube your chain, and go in for a routine checkup

Bike safer and smarter, with Pointz!

$80 a year for an app that should still be in beta. I occasionally come back to this app to find a new route somewhere and it seems to always miss some obvious choices with protected bike lanes or separated bike lanes. I didn't mind combining the route with my knowledge of the area though. But two searches per week or $80 a year is crazy.

Very slick interface, but poor route planning. I tried some local routing as well as my prior commute in Portland, OR. It completely ignored rail-trails, separated and dedicated bicycle infrastructure for longer, slower, more dangerous routes with an absurd number of turns. Right now, Ride With GPS and even Google Maps are better options in my opinion. Update after developer comment: Portland is better now, but the other test location had a 35-mile detour for a 5- mile ride on a rail trail.

Hi Bror, thank you so much for sharing this with us. Since Dec., we've taken this into account and have redone how we account for trails and infrastructure. Would you be able to try our latest release (3.0.1)? It has new options including a trail toggle, and we're in the process of refreshing all of the latest Portland and U.S. data for accuracy

Interesting app offering a unique concept with crowdsourcing route reviews. It does however feel quite unfinished as it's lacking many customizations that should be included in any cycling navigation application. The offered route options (Faster, Safer) are OK, I would like to see a 3rd option or a toggle that offers to stick to biking infrastructure even if route is considerably slower. There should be toggles for map zoom, day/night mode, navigation sounds, offline maps etc.

Hi Efrain, thank you for the feedback! Feel free to check out our new routing options (Safer/Balanced/Faster along with our toggles) as well as our improved navigation mode. We'll be releasing day/night modes and offline maps in the next two months, so excited to get your thoughts on those in the update.
