Travel back in time, 2,000 years ago, to the 1st century AD.
It has already been a century and a half since the Romans settled on the former Gallic oppidum. Since then, the architecture has evolved, streets have been paved, a forum and bridge have been erected, and the Via Domitia experiences constant traffic. Immerse yourself in this vibrant life by exploring the site's remains!
Ambrussum 3D offers an on-site visit route dotted with several points of interest.
At each stage of the tour, discover a 360° current view alongside a fully reconstructed 3D view. Using a slider, visitors can switch from the present day to Antiquity.
These reconstructions are accompanied by audio, video, text, and image content. Two levels of discovery are offered, allowing visitors to access the essential history of the site as well as the story of its discovery by archaeologists.
Explore the road station, the house with the forge, the Ambroix bridge, the eastern entrance of the oppidum, the forum, the interior and exterior of a Roman house, and the ramparts.
To ensure the most immersive experience possible, animated characters, animals, and natural landscapes bring each reconstruction to life. Catch a glimpse of the blacksmith at the road station hammering iron, a political magistrate delivering a speech at the forum, or merchants in a cart crossing the Roman bridge.
All 3D reconstructions are based on archaeological data.
These reconstructions have been validated by a scientific committee composed of archaeologists and academic researchers.
Note: For the best on-site experience, 10.5" tablets are available for rent at the Ambrussum Museum during opening hours.
