BEAR — Stress & Self-Regulation Tracker
BEAR is a stress-management and self-regulation app for Samsung Galaxy Watch. It reads your real-time physiological arousal signals — electrodermal activity (EDA / skin conductance), heart rate, inter-beat interval, and skin temperature — directly from the watch's on-body sensors, and shows them to you live so you can recognize stress as it builds and practice regulating it.
Why physiological signals?
EDA, heart rate variability, and skin temperature are well-established indicators of autonomic arousal. They shift within seconds when you're stressed and recover when you settle — often before you consciously notice the change. Watching them in real time gives you an objective handle on a state that's usually invisible.
What you can do with BEAR
- See your live arousal indicators update on your watch during a regulation session.
- Broadcast your live signals over Bluetooth Low Energy so a compatible companion app on a nearby phone, tablet, or computer — yours, or one belonging to a clinician or teacher supporting you — can receive and display them.
Designed for
- Anyone learning to recognize and regulate their own stress responses.
- Therapists and counselors who want a real-time arousal signal during a session with a client.
- Teachers and care workers supporting students or clients in self-regulation exercises.
- Researchers and educators studying physiological responses to stress and relaxation.
How it works
BEAR uses the Samsung Health Sensor SDK to read sensors directly from your watch. Signals are processed on-device and presented live on the watch face during a session. If you choose to share your signals with a companion device, BEAR streams them over a Bluetooth Low Energy.
Privacy
- All sensor data is read directly from your watch's on-body sensors.
- Nothing is uploaded to a developer-operated server.
- A compatible companion app is required to receive and decode the signal; the broadcast is not paired with general-purpose Bluetooth devices.
- No historical health record is built within the app; data is held only for the live session.
Important
BEAR is a wellness and self-regulation tool. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. It is not a medical device. If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis, please contact a qualified clinician or local emergency services.
Requirements
- A Samsung Galaxy Watch with Wear OS and Samsung Health Sensor SDK support.
- Bluetooth Low Energy on your paired companion device for live streaming.
- An activation code is required to enable live BLE streaming to a companion device. The watch app itself can be installed and used in local-only viewing mode without one.
Permissions
- Body sensors / Heart rate / Skin temperature: to read your arousal signals from the watch's on-body sensors.
- Activity recognition: to detect movement that affects sensor signal quality.
- Bluetooth advertise / connect: to stream signals to your companion device.
- Notifications: to display the active session indicator.
