Doesn't use Android default sharing menu Overall the redesign is a great improvement. But why is the sharing menu limited to either emailing or using Twitter to share a story? It should use the default Android menu for sharing that all other apps use.
Nice Keeps you up to date with city's events not too many annoying push notifications previous versiin took some time to load but all in all good app
Love the new version Only been using it for the past hour but so far its a great improvement
Vast improvement The new version is very good. I like the layout and new navigation features. Great job.
Listen to your users I'm sure they don't listen to comments. Who has an app that immediately pops up an ad when you start it up? We get the economics of apps. There's other ways to go about it. And regardless what you've apparently been told as feedback, users don't like reading a short story having to swipe multiple times. Learn something from ui design. This is horrible.
Morally bankrupt This paper sold its entire front page to a single party the day before the election. The ad was disguised to not look like an ad but instead look like a warning from elections Canada. Do you care if the app is any good when you know they have so little regard for their job as journalists
The Immediate popup is slightly annoying But what really annoys me is the lack of landscape support. Especially as the Ads seem to support landscape oddly!
Notifications Cannot be Disabled This App would not stop annoying me, so I disabled notifications via the OS. Better now.
Great News app It is great to get access to Ottawa news when living outside Ottawa. Would be great, though, if The Citizen would also have a BB10 app available to download as well.
Used to work, but no longer does now. The title says it all. It used to run nicely and smoothly, now it does not even crash, it simply does not even launch! It has been like that for the last couple of days. I have sent several crash reports, unfortunately it is still down. Back to the browser version for now... or longer!
No breaking news shutoff etc The only news app that I have that doesn't have a Settings option, and no way to shutoff breaking news updates. Unstable application, sometimes freezes, or slows to crawl. For the national capital this is one shoddy app. Phone: Galaxy S4. UPDATE: Finally uninstalled.
Poor interface, and useless notifications I'm not sure what the programmers were trying to accomplish with this app, but it's a big step backward from the app it replaces. For even short articles that would fit on one screen, I have to swipe through 4 screens. Why not just scroll? Also, I used to praise the fact that whenever I received a notification, it was guaranteed to be useful news. Now, I'm getting daily forecast notifications (with unfunny jokes to boot). News is good, but app is terrible. Uninstalling.
No Settings... Without settings with this app, I can't turn off notifications when Ottawa Citizen wants to deliver fresh news. And I hate when my phone "pings" me out of my blissful sleep at 2am, simply for some breaking news that really wasn't.
Citizen app is getting worse The app is as bad as the paper edition. It seems as they fired all their reporters as well as their software developers. Even if they get the app going the stories are not worth reading...
Automatically launches full-screen ad on open The app automatically launches a full-screen ad when you open it. Avoid.
Great content, clean UI The app crashes in a daily basis, but I am hopeful that the new update fixes that. In spite of this, it is my first news app I reach for. The local content cannot be beat. If it crashes for you, please send a report to the developer (you will get an option). They cannot fix it without that info.
Hipster clickbait, no good journalism The only reason I gave this a second star was because the app isn't terrible, but the content is not even close to real journalism. I downloaded this thinking it was the reliable newspaper it once was, now it is just clickbait. So sad.
Garbage Was a good app at the beginning, but every time it gets updated they somehow find a way to make it worse, latest update made me uninstall it. Do they have high school drop outs writing code there?
Only one orientation Really terrible app. Stories can only be read in portrait mode!!! Stories are formatted for phones only with about two sentences per page, so it looks stupid on a tablet and takes forever to read.
Can't adjust the font size. Articles are spread out over too many pages.
Bad text formatting One paragraph per page and faint font color.
Decent news apo but you can't turn off the notifications
Holy frustrating batman The app needs to be fixed. It's works for a few minutes but then you can't scroll through the articles because when you try, it selects the articles instead. You end up getting stuck with just a few articles to read and have to quit the app off you want to read the news. This should have been better tested.
Unstable So bad. Can't even scroll properly. Crashes all the time. Freezes up. Not smooth. All around, a piece of crap. And they had the nerve to advertise this app. UPDATE: APP STILL SUCKS, UNINSTALLING. DON'T BOTHER. JUST USE THE WEBSITE.
Buggy Samsung Galaxy 4 tab Its slow, unresponsive and annoying. Swiping just opens random stories and once opened you can't scroll. Couldn't make it worse if they tried
Nice try, but no cigar The potential is there - but the execution is horrible. the content is great, beautiful pictures and usually well written articles however the app crashes constantly, almost impossible to scroll through articles and much more...
Useless You can't scroll through the different articles without clicking on an article. Scroll doesn't respond in the articles, takes 2 or 3 swipes for it to move. It also doesn't show who wrote the articles. Just all around irritating app.
Don't bother Doesn't work on galaxy tablet and when it did, the paging instead of scrolling is just insane. Did an 8 year old design this?
bummer. After using it for two minutes it froze up, skipped to random articles and was unresponsive. It's not acceptable given the other excellent news apps fom the ny times, guardian and even the globe and mail.
App freezes, poor quality Not easy to use. This app reflects poorly on the Capitals news, I just deleted it. Not worth the hastle. Worthless!!!!
Love the articles but can't scroll I have a Samsumg Galaxy Note and I like the way the app is set up and the access to articles. But I cannot scroll through the different pages in an article to look at articles below the current view. I can't scroll....it selects the articles instead. Please fix it or I can't use it!
