Autism Friendly Spaces (AFS) is a comprehensive initiative developed to foster inclusion and accessibility for individuals on the autism spectrum across public and private environments. It offers a structured framework that supports organisations, shops, services, and youth centres in becoming more welcoming and accommodating through practical tools and evidence-based strategies.
The project provides free online training modules, developed with the involvement of autistic individuals, professionals, and families, to raise awareness and improve understanding of autism. Participants can access detailed criteria and guidelines to evaluate and adapt their spaces, ultimately working toward achieving the Autism Friendly Spaces Award—a recognition of their commitment to creating truly inclusive environments.
AFS also focuses on empowering youth workers and stakeholders to create autism-friendly youth centres, where young people on the spectrum can feel safe, supported, and actively included in social and educational activities.
By promoting sustainable change through education, assessment, and community collaboration, Autism Friendly Spaces is helping to build a more inclusive society—one space at a time.
