About this app
Prospector Mate is an offline map for gold prospecting, metal detecting and fossicking. Track where you walk, mark every find with a photo, read the ground with historical gold records, geology, land access and 1-metre Bare Ground LiDAR, and at the end of the day let the arrow point you straight back to where you parked. It all works with no mobile reception, and your data stays on your phone.
KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN
• Record an outing: your route, distance and time, with the screen off and the phone in your pocket.
• Mark every nugget and find with a photo, weight, depth and the metal detector and coil you used.
• Mark waypoints and navigate to them. Return to start points you back to your vehicle or camp with an arrow and a distance.
• Draw a route to walk or mark out the corners of an area, and measure distances as you go.
• Load earlier outings onto the map, several at once, and replay a day.

BARE GROUND LIDAR
A 1-metre laser survey with the vegetation stripped out. It shows old diggings, shafts, costeans and alluvial workings across the goldfields. Under tree cover that hides everything from the air, a costean looks like a costean and a line of shafts looks like a line of shafts. Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Tasmania are included with the Prospector Subscription and download for offline use like any other layer. The free LiDAR Coverage layer shows exactly where 1-metre coverage exists.
WORKS WITHOUT RECEPTION
Download any area, with every layer you choose, while you have signal. Once it is on the phone the app asks for nothing. Position comes from the phone's own GPS, so tracking never needed a connection in the first place.
YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
There is no sign-up. Outings, tracks, finds, photos and waypoints are stored on your phone and, if you switch on Backup, in your own Google Drive. They are never uploaded to us. No analytics, no ads, no trackers. Export a day as a .pmate file, PDF, CSV, GPX or KML, or share it with a mate. Lock an export with a code and nobody can open it without the code, including us.
ON YOUR WRIST
Wear a Wear OS watch and the way back to your start shows on the watch, with your distance and time, then a summary when you stop. The phone can stay in your pocket. Garmin watches are supported through the Connect IQ store.
THE WEB MAP VIEWER
Open a .pmate on a big screen at prospectormate.com. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. The Web Map Viewer is included with the Prospector Subscription.

The free version has the topographic, street and satellite maps in 3D, search, the return-to-start arrow, LiDAR Coverage and everything you have recorded. The Prospector Subscription unlocks recording, finds, waypoints, every map layer, LiDAR relief, offline downloads, weather and the gold price. Cancel or lapse and every outing, photo and waypoint stays readable on your phone.

What’s new
New: Rock Types, in every state. Beside the Geology layer, the map is now coloured by what the rock is - sandstone, granite, basalt, dolerite, rhyolite, alluvium and more - with the faults through it and the rock's name printed on the map as you zoom in. Tap a unit to read the survey's own description.
