The program Aviation RF Link allows quick calculation of the forward link from a ground station to an aircraft. Based on the RF power of the ground station, the tool calculates the distance with a given field strength to be achieved at the aircraft antenna or calculates the field strength at a given power and distance to the aircraft.
The tool calculates the path loss based on line-of-sight (LOS) conditions and does not take into account multipath propagation on the ground.
In addition to the RF path, the tool calculates the radio horizon based on the given height of the aircraft and the ground station. If the calculated LOS is lower than the distance that can be achieved with the given radio conditions, this is indicated by a red dot on the LOS tab. In this case, the radio horizon is the limiting factor and not the RF link budget.
The line of sight is calculated in accordance with ICAO Annex 10 Vol. V.
The default for the antenna gain of 2.14 dBi corresponds to an omni directional antenna.
The default for the field strength of 75 uV/m corresponds to the ICAO recommendation for minimum reception at the aircraft antenna.
To start calculation, just select a row by touching it and change a specific value.
After touching the "Return" button, the dependent values are calculated automatically.
If any value other than distance is changed, the distance is recalculated. If distance is changed, the field strength is recalculated.
If you change a unit, the corresponding numerical values are converted. For example: 1 mW yields 0 dBm if the unit is changed from mW to dBm. Also conversion between feet and meters, and between nautical miles and kilometers is performed.
**This application will not run on devices that are rooted.

The Map screen is perfect for tablet computers. If you fly multiple planes, you will have one portable navigation instrument that you know and can rely upon.
It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to learn how to get to any airport, anywhere in the world. Search airport descriptions, identifiers, or nearest lists. And now with the latest version, by picking a spot on the map and with a single press insert it into your flight plan and immediately see the bearing and distance to that location from where your are.
You can export and import your flight plan and edit it on any computer.
Press NEAREST for the nearest 50-100 runways, press (select) the airport you want, and follow the bearing or track on the map, verbally if you wish. This App shows a single Right or Left and the number of degrees. Easy. It also shows Ground Track, Bearing, Ground Speed, Altitude, Distance to Airport and Estimated Time of Arrival at current speed.
Press MAP and you have a moving map with "Press and Go." With the map visible,press any place on the map and the Lat/Lon from that location will be stored in the destination list. You may also choose to immediately navigate to that location. In this case the navigation bearing line will be redrawn. You may edit the name of the location in the Flight Plan screen.
If you check the MAP screenshot you can see that to navigate to your destination, just turn to the plane until the track (black with pointer) line is coincident with the RED Bearing line.. The bearing line can be updated to start from your current location anytime.
VFR+ has most of airports in the world. Airports can be found by ICAO or a word or phrase from the Description. For example, "paris" would return 25 runways to select from.
The VFR+ has a point logging feature. While flying every 30 seconds a Lat/Lon point is stored along with Altitude and Ground Speed. The Point Log can be emailed to your computer and opened with Excel or other compatible program. A hyper link is included to see that location on Google Maps.
The VFR+ has an automatic LogBook capability which saves pilot time and improves accuracy by automatically keeping your in air time. The Log Book stores your flight hours as well as your Type Aircraft and Tail Number.
The Log Book can be viewed on the phone or emailed to any computer of your choice. If necessary, you can start and stop the Time logger manually.

The Automatic Logbook feature uses a ground speed value greater than 30KTS to determine when you rotate and a speed value less than 5 KTS to determine when you have landed.
USING THE AUTOMATIC LOGBOOK.
There may be times when this method will not be accurate due to GPS not reporting SPEED when the GPS signal is lost. So it is possible to manually override the start and end of your flight. To manually START and STOP, simply push the "Automatic Logging button" to switch to Manual Logging. The ICON to the right will change to a "Push To Start Logging" button. Doing so will start the logging timer and change the legend to "Push to Stop Logging" with a blue background. The "Push to Stop Logging" button stops the Logging of time. Note that the box is BROWN when not logging (ground) and blue when logging time (in the Blue Sky).

This logger is optimized for battery life. You can select a gps interval and between these events gps will be completly disabled.
Therefore, it is especially suitable for very long tracks (hiking, trekking, sailing, biking,...) or to track a phone (track your childs).

This app is only compatible with certain phones, it's hard to give a list without having every phone for me to use, it was developed on HTC Desire bravo and works daily for me, as I only have one phone testing on other devices is limited.

The log book is very safe and secure, it can easily be got from the phone on your sd card, or emailed
to you by the in app email me function.
Note as our log books are so valuable if this app is removed by accident you will loose you data, planes etc but not your logbook.
All the features have been well tested however the Watcher function that monitors for when you go flying is very experimental,
It depends on your gps being on and having a good wake up time.
If you find you battery drains quickly then change the 'Watcher Frequency" it is set by default to 120 seconds ie look for take off / landing every 2 mins, however I find 200 is enough.
This app has a multitude of settings and preferences, most you don't need to use but I believe in letting you change any settings you want in an app.
GPS Watcher - The GPS watcher service is an experimental feature that uses conditions, parameters and an every increasing in complexity algorithm.
The GPS watcher runs in the background in sleep mode waking up every 3 mins (user configurable) to see what the gps reads in relation to altitude, ground speed, ROC/ROC, location and location change to name but a few to (try) and detect take off and landings, these can then be viewed or by adding Aircraft reg be added to the inbuilt log book.
There are a number of settings in the Preferences to tweak it so it works better for you.
The MOST IMPORTANT is height set it to 400ft above you normal airfield elevation
Best to open the manual and see the section on the Watcher to find what to set them to.

What permissions – why ?
Location – GPS is only used if the GPS watcher is turned on to detect flights
Storage – sd card to store your aircraft, airfields, preferences and logbook
Network / internet – To email your log book to you, get weather info TAF Metar and rain radar – if off phone cloud backup of you logbook is on then that too
System tools – prevent sleep – on the In Air Display screen showing track, ground speed, lat long ROC/ROD etc the screen will not time out

The graphical interface is very simple and easy to read in the plane. The checklists are organized in four levels. No other app in the market has four levels, needed in aviation.
