Lo-fi music is a style that uses low-fidelity recordings, noise and
interference, seeking a more nostalgic and relaxing atmosphere. Over time,
lo-fi music became popular on the internet and is currently used for various purposes,
as a soundtrack to study, relax, work and even meditate. Often
consumed on virtual radios with continuous transmissions, the amount of music
presented on the platforms is immense; as well as the number of artists and composers
involved in short banners, standardized visual identities and generic names. That
massification and need for speed of consumption can be seen as a distance from the
listener of the music's own content and form. As the South Korean philosopher, Byung-Chul Han, states: "The acceleration of time in the era
digital makes the past quickly disappear and the memory becomes fragile".
sense, lo-fi music provides a sense of nostalgia, connecting the listener to signs that
do not necessarily correlate to concrete realities or feasible memories, however,
within their own impersonality, transport the individual to a static time, within
a deterritorialized place, like a dream.
