I "had" the Wi-Fi enabled Rainbird ESP-Me controller and app for about 8 years. For all that time, this combination has been nothing but a major headache. App fails to connect most of the time (Wi-Fi 4 feet away), painfully slow when it does connect, constantly re-connecting, crashes frequently, won't shut-off a zone once turned on for sprinkler maintenance, etc., etc. From what I've read, Rachio, Hunter, Orbit, et al. are far superior. Not recommended.

The app did everything it was supposed to do. I didn't have any problems connecting the wifi. The controller sits within 10ft to my wifi router. Two people were able to install the app and sync with the existing watering schedule/program. Rain Bird does not ask you to create a user account on their servers which means that the zone data is stored on the controller. That is, the app doesn't seem to upload user data to some big online database like most apps.

Overall a plus, but needs improvement. Connection on startup is hit or miss. Once connected, it works great. A glaring missing feature is a permanent delay option, which is especially useful if your controller is outside or blocked by items stored in your garage. Now you can only delay up to 14 days, and have to remember to keep updating the delay. Would like to be able to enter a GPM for each zone for more accurate water use estimation and reporting. It's easy to get by reading water meter.
