Update: the app Simple Media Mutter is even more simple, and does not vibrate, only shows the sound level, which is perfect. Great! A simple app that I was looking for. No menus or anything, just mute. But why does it vibrate? Why? And no option to disable the vibration.

Worked fine, but now all it does is pull up a notification preferences pane. Can't turn sound on and off, and the preferences pane glitch seems sketchy to me. I uninstalled it.

This app would be great if it could be always on top of every screen as an "always on top" draggable icon with the "draw over apps permission".
