ReadChinese AI turns a passage of Chinese into an annotated reading view. Paste or type any text
and pinyin appears above each character, produced by an on-device engine, so annotating works
without a connection.
Tap a word for an explanation in context
Tapping a word sends the surrounding sentence to the AI, so the explanation fits the passage you
are reading rather than listing every possible sense. You get pinyin with tone marks, the meaning
as it is used here, a breakdown of the characters in compound words, and an example sentence.
Difficulty at a glance
Each passage is scanned against an HSK word list and labelled with an estimated level, so you can
tell whether a text sits near your reading ability before you start.
Save words and take them with you
Save a word while reading and it goes to your word bank with its pinyin and meaning. A word list
can be shared out as tab-separated text, the format Anki reads when importing.
Reading sessions
Any annotated text can be saved as a session and reopened later, with its pinyin intact and
without a connection. Sessions build up into a library of what you have read.
Who it is for
HSK students, beginners working through a first paragraph, and intermediate readers moving on to
articles and fiction. It takes whatever you paste: textbook passages, messages, news, lyrics,
chapters.
The app is free, has no ads, and needs no account. Reading sessions and saved words stay on your
device; the tap-to-explain feature sends the sentence you tapped to an AI service over HTTPS
