If you have tried a few reading-log apps, this may sound familiar.
You read a PDF in one app and write notes in another, and the feature you wanted sits behind a payment window.
Booktelier turns these frustrations around, one by one.
First, premium-grade features you would expect to pay for. In Booktelier, all of them are free.
โ "I read PDFs in a reader and take notes somewhere else"
โ Attach an EPUB, TXT or PDF to a book in your Library and read it inside the app. Press and drag to highlight, then add a note or save the passage as a quote. Next time, you pick up where you stopped.
โ "I vow to avoid that translator next time, then forget"
โ Rate the translation with "Translation โ ", apart from the book's rating. Mark a translator as a favorite (โฅ) or one to avoid (โ ) and you are warned when you add or start one of their books. All in "My translators".
โ "What is left when you gather the books many places recommend?"
โ In "Beyond", "Books Chosen by Time" lifts the books that many lists picked together, such as literary prizes and reading lists.
โ "I play rain sounds while I read, but that means another app"
โ The reading timer has "Background sound": rain, ripples, a cafรฉ by the window, a library. Put the phone face down and focus mode starts.
โ "I step away to look something up and the timer keeps running"
โ Switch to another app and Booktelier asks "Were you away?" and whether to subtract that time.

Booktelier does not send your reading records to a server, and there is no sign-up. We think the most important thing in a record-keeping app is that the records you worked hard to build never get lost. So we put the most care into keeping your records from disappearing. It can't be perfect, but we have tried to recreate as many extreme situations as we can think of, for real, and checked that everything works as intended. If a save fails, it rolls back to the state just before, and you can bring back what you deleted for a little while. With Auto Backup on, it saves to a folder you choose every week, and "Full backup with files" lets you export e-books, PDFs and photos all together and restore them.
That would be enough, but there is more.

A monthly Diary, "Copy by hand" for copying a line, "This book, for you" for sending a finished book to a friend, and a "To future me" letter that opens a year later.
โ Garden and Moonlit Lake
Pages you read become water for flowers in your Garden. In Moonlit Lake you float a line as a nameless lantern, and it disappears after seven days.
