Yay puts the number of days until the thing you are waiting for right on your home screen.
A holiday. A birthday. Payday. The concert in March. Add it once and the number is there every time you pick up your phone. On the day itself, the number becomes the word Yay!
THE WIDGET IS THE POINT
Yay is built around its home screen widget. Add the widget, choose a countdown, and it keeps itself up to date. You never have to open the app to check.
MADE TO LOOK GOOD
Eighteen themes, each one a full field of color with the number set in the app's own typeface. Six are free.
Two packs add more: six pastel colors, and six printed designs including pineapple, frangipani, watermelon and palm.
Every countdown can wear its own theme, so your home screen ends up a set of colors you picked.
REMINDERS, IF YOU WANT THEM
One reminder on the day, at a time you choose. Add a day-before reminder as well, or turn reminders off completely. One reminder per event is useful and two is a nag, so the second one stays off unless you ask for it.

Full unlock: unlimited countdowns and every theme, including any theme added later.
Every purchase is a single payment. There is no subscription and there never will be one.

Yay has no account, no sign in and no server. Your countdowns are stored on your phone and nowhere else. Nothing is collected, nothing is shared, and there is no analytics of any kind.
