About this app

FoCal Mobile brings Reikan FoCal's DSLR camera calibration and analysis tools to your mobile device!

Connect your camera to your device* and FoCal takes control to analyse the performance of your autofocus system and tune it for better shots.

The free FoCal Mobile app features:

- Automatic control of all Canon and Nikon DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras which support AF tuning (AF Microadjustment/AF Fine Tune)
- Automatic verification of test setup, including camera position, lighting, camera and lens settings and more
- One-tap testing of autofocus system performance, with scores and crops to review
- Camera time synchronisation

With a FoCal Pro subscription or FoCal Pro (Desktop) license (within support), you can add:

- Calibration of your lenses, tuning your autofocus for the best performance possible. Get the very best from your camera and lenses.
- Check your autofocus with cameras that have already been calibrated.
- FoCal Comparison Database: compare the performance of your kit with 1,000s of other users to find out how it compares to *real-world* use, NOT artificial lab tests!
- Review historical data, recall tests and calibrations you've run to find out how your equipment is holding up.
- Export data to FoCal Pro Desktop for more detailed analysis, charting, reports and more.
- One-tap Time Sync - synchronise your camera time with one tap right from the first screen of FoCal.
- Calibrate and analyse lenses with focal lengths over 400mm.

* Connection is via USB or the Reikan Wireless Camera Control Module.
- For iPhone and iPad with lightning connectors, you will require an Apple Lightning to USB3 Adapter in order to connect a camera.
- For iPad with USB-C, you can directly connect to the camera with just an appropriate cable.

FoCal requires the use of a FoCal Target, which can be printed using links from within the app, or purchased from the FoCal store.

You will need a FoCal account, which can be created for free from within the app. With a FoCal Pro (Desktop) license which is within the support period, you will have automatic access to all Mobile Pro features.

I found it very confusing to get started, constantly having to connect and disconnect the usb cable to adjust camera settings. (There appeared to be a link to adjust the settings, but it didn't work). I had to go online to print the target. Ok, so I got results,I but to actually calibrate the lens, you have to get Pro at £19 ... a year. Why is it a subscription? If it was a one-time purchase, fine, but I hesitate to go for yet another subscription

It detects and correctly identifies the camera attached (Canon EOS 6D mk2). I then tap the "connect" button and it goes into "updating information" and that's it. It will happily do that for hours but never gets beyond that. Pity as, on paper, it looks like a useful utility. EDIT - impressively prompt support response to this review with link to customer support. A good sign.

Thanks for the review, and sorry you've not been able to connect. We'd like to understand why as that's obviously not what should happen! Could you raise a support ticket at https://blog.reikanfocal.com/contact-support/ and we'll get some further information from you.

I had to upgrade to Pro to test 600mm. The target distance tool isn't available on Android, but I found that 20 times focal length is required. (But I had to be farther with a 120mm printed target) My need is for 15ft and 600mm. The lens is Sigma 60-600 on a Canon EOS R6. It shows some back focus that I could tune out with the USB Dock. I was hoping FoCal would be helpful.

What’s new

It's been a while since the last release, so there's a lot of internal updates in this one!

Not least, it brings support for the Nikon Z50ii and Z5ii cameras, as well as stability, performance and control updates.

There's also an important update to improve reliability and accuracy on all Nikon Z-series cameras.
