About this app

SMS Backup & Restore is an app that backs up (creates a copy of) SMS & MMS messages and call logs currently available on the phone. It can also restore messages and call logs from already existing backups.

Note: This app requires existing backups to be able to restore call logs and messages. It cannot recover anything without existing backups.

For questions or issues please visit our FAQ at: https://synctech.com.au/sms-faqs/

APP FEATURES:
- Backup SMS (text) messages, MMS and call logs in XML format.
- Local device backup with options to automatically upload to Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.
- Choose a recurring scheduled time to automatically backup.
- Option to select which conversations to backup or restore.

Notes:
- Tested on Android 5.0 and higher
- App only restores backups made by this app
- Backup is created locally on the phone by default, but has options to upload to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Email. At no time are the files sent to the developer.
- Please ensure there is a copy of the backup outside the phone before performing a factory reset on the phone.

Perfectly fine app, just two things that I'm a little annoyed about: 1. The messages with the attachments don't actually show the attachments in the final result, even if it's just a photo. 2. Backing it up to Google Drive is not really worth it since it comes in an XML file, it takes you to a website to make the XML file "more readable", and then the site says "Download the messages on the app to view it." It would have been better to keep it local. Other than that, it's a solid app.

The built in viewer from Menu - View Backups and the online viewer both show attachments. Please email us on support@synctech.com.au if that does not work for you. Storing on Google Drive is for safe keeping so you don't lose the backup if the phone is lost or stops working. You can set the app to only keep the backups locally as well.

I've had this app since 2018, and it worked really well for most of that time. However it has now (July 2022) not actually backed anything up (including trying manually) since October 2021. It always says "A network error occurred. Please make sure the device can connect to the internet.", despite my being connected to wifi and every other app on my phone recognizing that.

Please send us logs from the app immediately after you get that error so that we can investigate further. Menu - Help and feedback - Send app logs to developer.

I've had SMS Backup & Restore app for four years, ever since my old phone suddenly died in 2018. I can't give this quiet, non-intrusive app enough praise. E.g., last week I accidentally swiped and lost an entire thread of important messages. After two panicked days trying to recover the thread and multiple various (additional) recovery tools/apps that supposedly could fix the problem, but failed, I asked SMS to move my restore point back 24 hrs, and all messages, photos, etc returned!
