SUPERIOR VISION AID
Instruction Guide
NOTICE!
You are required to use a specialized visor with this application to work properly (read more on this below). You *must* approve three permissions: microphone, storage, and camera- otherwise, this app will crash. On most Android devices, you need to do a long press on the icon, then press ‘app info’ then add them one at a time under permissions.
IMPORTANT!
It is best to be seated when using this application with visor. DO NOT operate any vehicle or machinery while using this application. Always be aware of your surroundings.
Because of how the voice recognition works, please have the volume where you want it before you start the application. Adjusting to a higher brightness may make the image easier to view with the visor as well.
What is this application about?
This is a voice recognition application, that, with the aid of your smart phone and a specialized visor, allow you to have a picture of the view around you located in the best area of your vision. The app itself is free with no ads or extra purchases.
This app requires an Android mid to high range smartphone (preferably 6” as a larger display is easier to see) as well as a specialized visor (typical VR visors will not work.) that allows the Android screen and real-life surroundings to be viewed as a mixed image, the assist view floating in three dimensional space. The visor that it was designed and tested for and works best is the inexpensive Haori visor (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Hot-AR-Headset-Box-Glasses-3D_60688037004.html?spm=a2700.12243863.0.0.39db3e5faW1Ujv ). The back camera on the phone needs to be exposed. The application will automatically focus as long as your smartphone as an auto focus feature. It is best to turn brightness as far up as possible so you can clearly see the image produced before running the application.
There is an on screen display of controls but it is recommended that voice recognition is used as the print is small. You can remove the controls by pressing on the square blue icon on the top right side of your display; this is recommended before you place your smartphone into the visor. Either way, the control assists you in resizing and moving the image to the best place for your eyesight. Exiting the application and returning to it should keep the size and location of the image intact unless you uninstall it, so you don’t need to go back to that “sweet spot” for your vision again. All successful interactions are followed by a voice acknowledging the request.
How the voice recognition works.
A simple parser, a way of taking apart words then acting on them, is employed. Every phrase that the app “hears” looks for particular words and discards the rest. For example, if the command is, “Please exit right now”, the command, “please exit” is used, but “right now” is ignored and it does what “please exit” would do, exit the app. “Please” is the key word that must be said to activate the rest of the phrase – it is the “wake” word to the app.
Here are the voice recognition commands and what they do:
Please move left – moves camera image to the left.
Please move right – moves camera image to the right.
Please move up – moves camera image upwards.
Please move down – moves camera image downwards.
Please make smaller – makes the image smaller (there is a limit to how small).
Please make bigger – makes the image bigger (there is a limit to how big).
Please zoom in – this will magnify the current image. You may only zoom in once. Note, this may make the image slightly smaller, but it will appear closer. IMPORTANT: all other controls except ‘please exit’ will not work while zoomed in. You must zoom out for all other controls to work.
Please zoom out – this will unmagnify a previously zoomed in image. You may only zoom out once.
Please exit – exits application.
