About this app

Tetrd is a simple tool that allows you to share your internet connection from your device to your PC and vice versa through a USB cable.

You can try it free for three days! When your free trial ends, you can purchase Tether Pro for unlimited tethering, Reverse Tether Pro for unlimited reverse tethering, or Universal Tether Pro to get both at a discounted price.

Tethering

Tethering allows you to share your device's wifi or mobile internet connection with your PC. You can use this if your carrier or data plan doesn't allow you to enable the built-in tethering feature of your device. Or if you have an unlimited data plan, but your carrier caps your hotspot/tethering usage to a certain amount, say 7GB.

Reverse Tethering

Reverse tethering allows you to share your computer's internet connection with your device. Use this if you're having issues with your device's wifi connection such as unstable ping or disconnections especially when playing games and your PC is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. It can also be used in situations where wired internet is the only available option.

Note: Some apps only check for wifi or cellular connectivity and will not have internet access when reverse tethering.

Network

When tethering or reverse tethering, your PC along with all connected devices will be in the same network. This means your device can send and receive data from your PC and other connected devices. This is done by creating a VPN connection on your device and a TUN/TAP adapter on your PC. This is useful if you want to transfer files from one device to another via FTP or if you want to access a server (eg. HTTP server) on your PC from your device.

Note: ICMP is currently not supported so the ping command won't work when tethering or reverse tethering.

Additional Features

• No root required
• No USB debugging required (except on Windows)
• Fast link speed (200Mbps+ on some devices)
• IPv6 support (may not work on some devices)
• Multiple devices can be reverse tethered simultaneously
• Configurable network settings

Installation

1. Install this app on your device.

2. Download and install the server application to your PC. Use the links below to download it.

Windows 7+

MacOS 10.12+ (Intel)
https://download.tetrd.app/files/tetrd.macos_amd64.pkg

Linux

Note: On Windows, a message might show when you open the installer saying "Windows protected your PC". This appears for all programs not recognized by Windows Defender. If you're not sure, you can always scan the installer using your antivirus. To continue installing the server application, click on More info then Run anyway buttons. This issue will be fixed in a future release.

Note: On macOS, a message might show saying the installer can't be opened. This appears because the installer is not yet recognized by macOS Gatekeeper. You can always scan the installer with your antivirus if you're not sure. To continue the installation, right click or ctrl-click the installer then select open. This issue will be fixed in a future release.

3. If you're using Windows, you'll need to enable USB debugging on your device. The link below will guide you on how to do this.

https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/dev-options#enable

4. Run the server application.

5. Plug in your device to your PC. The app should automatically open. If this does not happen, try changing the USB mode to File Transfer or MTP.

Note: On Windows, a message might appear asking you if you want to install some drivers. You'll need to allow the server application to install these drivers so that it can communicate with your device.

This app is working well for me most of the time. It took some time to figure out the best sequence when tethering...start the phone and the app before booting up the computer. If you time it right, it goes smoothly. I'm using Linux Mint. One problem, it won't work with an external VPN like Private Internet Access. Other than that, my speeds are better now that my ISP isn't throttling me anymore and I swear my battery usage has also improved. Update: After some outstanding support from the author, the problem with PIA is now solved. I've upgraded my review to five stars, since this was well deserved on his part. Edit: Here's an update on April 14, 2022. Tetrd does not work with my new Samsung Galaxy A12 phone, running Android 11. It says that it connects, and my Linux Mint operating system seems acknowledge that a connection is made, but nothing can access the internet through Tetrd using this phone. Neither the browsers, nor Symantic Update works. There are only limited steps the user can take, and I've tried everything, unplugging and plugging back in, turning the devices on and off, changing the DNS to 1.1.1.1... nothing changes. What's odd is that an older phone I can only use on occasion still works with this computer using Tetrd. An incompatibility with Android 11?

This app is incredible. I've been using it going on for about 4 months straight because all the major ISPs in my area don't come out to where I live but Verizons service does reach out here fairly well with an average of 75 mbps. So I decided to base my entire network off it. Desktops share the correct data transfer rate however due to the bandwidth limits of laptop's you can't share the actual speed. A bug that does bother me is the termination of the connection when tabbed out.

EDIT2:2003 Err EDIT:The problem seems to be related to the USB3 ports only. If you run into any problems and have a USB2 port, try that first! ORIGINAL:I have followed all the instruction on the screen and when I plug in my phone, the app opens. After a few moments the server app on my Windows device says, " is not responding". I am using the factory cables and tried everything from reinstalling to clearing the cache. I would like to be able to use this app because it is a really cool concept.
