RockVault is a camera scanner and private cabinet for rockhounds, mineral collectors, crystal collectors, and geology students.
Take a photo of a specimen — a fresh face, a few angles if you have them — and get a proposed species with a confidence score, lookalikes, Mohs hardness, crystal system, luster, streak, common localities, care notes, and toxicity warnings when they matter. Confirm or correct the ID. The model proposes; you decide.
Then file the stone: photos, where you found it, notes, tags, folders, and an estimated value range when one exists.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Identify rocks, minerals, crystals, and gems from one or more photos
• See lookalikes so pyrite is not sold as gold, and calcite is not called quartz
• Read properties that actually help in the field: hardness, system, streak, luster, gravity, associations
• Keep a personal cabinet with locality, GPS when you pin it, and notes
• Work offline on a pack of common species when the trail has no signal
• Search a field guide of 200+ species by name, formula, color, or place
• Use Field mode: color, luster, hardness, compass heading, GPS pin — large controls, high contrast
HOW TO GET A BETTER ID
A broken face beats a weathered rind. Shoot dry. Include a coin or fingernail for scale. Two angles beat one perfect shot. A streak plate still settles lookalikes.
HONEST LIMITS
Photo ID is not a lab. Similar-looking minerals need a streak plate, a hardness test, and sometimes a locality. RockVault shows confidence and alternatives instead of pretending certainty.
