RokuGPX is a GPS map app for walking the mountains of Japan. The map data comes from public sources, and we build and distribute the maps ourselves.
■ Course times are shown as estimates
When you draw a route, RokuGPX shows a course-time estimate along with distance and elevation gain. It's only an estimate. When you actually walk it, your recorded time is saved. Comparing the estimate with your own record shows how your pace differs from the estimate.
■ We build and distribute the maps
Using publicly available map data as source material, we generate our own vector tiles and serve them from our own servers. "RokuGPX Topo" is a map style designed for Japan's mountains, making trails, boardwalks, bridges, mountain huts, and water sources easier to tell apart. Choose from 3 levels of contour-line density, and switch to English labels.
■ From planning to recording, all in one flow
Plan on the web app (app.rokugpx.com), walk with the mobile app in the mountains, and keep a record of what you walked. The same data is synced with the iPhone version.
■ Switch between map styles
Besides RokuGPX Topo, switch between the standard map, hillshading, English labels, aerial photo, seamless aerial photo, and other map styles.
■ Offline maps
Select the area you plan to walk on the map and download it in advance. Downloaded areas can be displayed even where there is no signal. There is a limit to how much you can store. Before you start a download, RokuGPX shows an estimate of the space required.
■ GPS recording
Tap the record button to start recording the route you walk. Recording runs as a foreground service, so it continues even with the screen off or while using other apps. Check your distance, elevation gain, and elapsed time.
■ Route creation and elevation graph
Tap the map to draw a route. Automatic routing along trails is supported. Distance, elevation gain, and course time are calculated automatically, and the elevation graph is color-coded into 5 levels by grade.
■ Waypoints
Record places you notice with a photo and a note. Organize them with icons, colors, tags, and folders.
■ Plan together with Trips
Manage multiple routes and waypoints together as a "Trip." You can also check the weather forecast for a trip.
■ Mountain info from the map
Tap a peak, mountain hut, or water source to see information such as elevation and contact details. You can also open the Wikipedia article for a mountain by name.
■ Navigate to a destination
Select a facility such as a mountain hut or water source, or a saved waypoint, and tap "Navigate" to see the direction and straight-line distance to it. This is straight-line guidance to the destination, not turn-by-turn route directions.
■ Search
Find places on the map by name or address.
■ GPX import and export
Import GPX files created by other apps. You can also export a recorded route as GPX to share it.
■ Try it first. Sign-in is required to save
You can try viewing the map, drawing a route to check the elevation graph and course time, and searching, all without signing in. Signing in is required to save routes, waypoints, GPS recordings, and trips.
Please note
- Compiling and publishing trip reports is currently an iOS-only feature. It is not available on Android.
Available in Japanese and English.
