RTPONKY is a community-powered app designed to help users of Mexico City’s RTP public transportation system better understand what is happening on their routes and reduce uncertainty while traveling.
The app works through passenger collaboration. When someone is riding an RTP bus, they can voluntarily share their trip so other users on the same route can see approximately where the vehicle is.
Users can also explore routes, stops, directions, and recent information shared by the community.
With RTPONKY you can:
• View RTP routes and stops.
• Explore route paths and travel directions.
• Voluntarily share your trip with the community.
• See vehicles currently being shared in real time.
• Check when a vehicle was last seen.
• Report that you saw an RTP bus even if you are not riding it.
• Report traffic, delays, detours, or incidents.
• Report vehicle occupancy levels.
• Save your favorite routes.
• Receive information and notifications related to your routes.
RTPONKY clearly distinguishes between live information and recent community sightings.
🟢 Live: a passenger is currently riding the vehicle and has chosen to share the trip.
🟠 Recently seen: a user reported seeing the vehicle, or the app is showing its last known location. This does not represent a real-time location.
Location sharing only starts when the user chooses to begin a trip and can be stopped at any time. RTPONKY is designed to represent the approximate location of public transportation, not to publicly track the person sharing their trip.
When you reach the stop you selected as your destination, the app may automatically end your participation in the trip. You can also end it manually at any time.
RTPONKY started from a simple idea: passengers already help each other by sharing information about where public transportation is. That collaboration can become a useful tool for more people.
Every shared trip, report, or sighting can help someone who is still waiting.
Important: RTPONKY is an independent, community-driven project. It is not owned by, affiliated with, or officially connected to RTP, SEMOVI, or the Government of Mexico City. Community information may not reflect the current location or status of every vehicle.
